Members Belva
A guy on another forum has the stock speaker wire on his Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue getting hot. He wants to just replace it with a fatter wire. Seems to me there must be something else going on causing the wire to heat up. we know a wire will get cooked if it's flowing more amps than it's intended. am I correct assuming the amp needs the attention of a tech? Members Canadian Jeff
I would assume that if the speaker was getting more juice than it needed the speaker would have popped? Perhaps the speaker wire itself has fatigued and fractured thus increasing its resistance? I'm likely just talking out my butt though, I'll go back to making lunch now. Members WRGKMC
Speaker cords do get hot. You may be pumping 70V there if its a high wattage amp. Everyone knows how cheezy store bought wires are. They are often the bare minimum fortolerance. If he's worried, have him get some heavier lamp cord at home depot and make his own. The more copper strands, the less resistance, the less heat.
