Members denvertrakker
By the way, Denvertracker, John sang a nice (shortened) version of this with the Mitchell Trio in the 60s .... Strangely enough, my introduction to this song came not via JD or Eric, but through Rick Nelson! His 1969 concert album is, IMHO, an overlooked gem. Members Rickkkk
Two broken Tigers on fire in the night Flicker their souls to the wind We wait in the lines for the final approach to begin It's been almost four years that I've carried a gun At home it will almost be spring The flames of the Tigers are lighting the road to Berlin Ah, quickly we move through the ruins that bow to the ground The old men and children they sent out to face us, they can't slow us down And all that I ever was able to see The eyes of the city are opening now, it's the end of the dream. I remember trying to work up the nerve to call my first girlfriend on the phone for our first date back in '78 ... Put on "Blood On The Tracks" and Tangled Up In Blue somehow did the trick .... Still listening to it (the remastered CD has been in my car since I bought it 6 months ago) and loving it. Cheers !

Members dparr
Through the dust and smoke of that man-made hellWalked a giant of a man that the miners knew wellHe grabbed a sagging oak trimber and gave out with a groanAnd like a huge oak tree he just stood there aloneThen with all his strength he gave a mighty shoveAnd a miner cried out, "There's a light up above."And twenty men scrambeled from a would be graveAnd now there's only one left down there to saveBig JohnWith jacks and timbers they started back downThen came that rumble way down in the groundSmoke and gas belched out of that mineAnd everyone knew it was the end of the lineFor Big JohnBig John. Big John. Big bad John In the event of something happening to me,there is something I would like you all to see. It's just a photograph of someone that I knew. { Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?{ Do you know what it's like on the outside?{ Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones. I keep straining my ears to hear a sound.Maybe someone is digging underground,or have they given up and all gone home to bed, thinking those who once existed must be dead. Members Rickkkk
My love, she speaks like silence Without ideals or violence She doesn't have to say she's faithful Yet she's true like ice, like fire People carry roses And make promises by the hour My love she laughs like the flowers Valentines can't buy her In the dime stores and bus stations People talk of situations Read books, repeat quotations Draw conclusions on the wall Some speak of the future My love, she speaks softly She knows there's no success like failure And that failure's no success at all The cloak and dagger dangles Madams light the candles In ceremonies of the horsemen Even the pawn must hold a grudge Statues made of matchsticks Crumble into one another My love winks she does not bother She knows too much to argue or to judge The bridge at midnight trembles The country doctor rambles Bankers' nieces seek perfection Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring The wind howls like a hammer The night wind blows cold n' rainy My love, she's like some raven At my window with a broken wing

Members Rickkkk
How sweet I roam'd from field to field, And tasted all the summer's pride, 'Till I the prince of love beheld, Who in the sunny beams did glide! - He shew'd me lilies for my hair, And blushing roses for my brow; He led me through his gardens fair Where all his golden pleasures grow. - With sweet May dews my wings were wet, And Phoebus fir'd my vocal rage; He caught me in his silken net, And shut me in his golden cage. - He loves to sit and hear me sing, Then, laughing, sports and plays with me; Then stretches out my golden wing, And mocks my loss of liberty. I fell asleep down by a streamAnd there I had the strangest dreamAnd down by Brennan's Glen there growsA Briar and a Rose It's beens so long I don't know whenBut I was born in Brennan's GlenAnd near the end of spring there growsA Briar and a Rose There's a tree in the forest I don't know whereI built a nest out of your hairAnd climbing up into the airA Briar and a Rose I picked a rose one early mornI pricked my finger on a thornThey've grown so close their winding woveThe Briar round the Rose I tried to tear them both apartI felt a bullet in my heartAnd all dressed up in spring's new clothesThe Briar and the Rose And when I'm buried and in my graveTell me that so I will knowYour tears will fall to make love growThe Briar and the Rose

Are you dreaming of a lover who will carry you away? And take you from the crying of the crowd? No cradle in the rushes, you are broken like the dayAnd darkness all around you like a shroud And I swear to God I saw an angel hand attend youMust have been the dancing of the lightNo mortal or immortal Did deliver or defend youAll hands have forsaken you tonight. When they finally surrounded you did any of them face you?And did you curse the moon and stars above? Those cruel arms abandoned you for water to embrace youWon't you lay your head my waterlilly love?
