Two broken Tigers on fire in the night
Flicker their souls to the wind
We wait in the lines for the final approach to begin
It's been almost four years that I've carried a gun
At home it will almost be spring
The flames of the Tigers are lighting the road to Berlin

Ah, quickly we move through the ruins that bow to the ground
The old men and children they sent out to face us, they can't slow us down
And all that I ever was able to see
The eyes of the city are opening now, it's the end of the dream.

Strangely enough, my introduction to this song came not via JD or Eric, but through Rick Nelson! His 1969 concert album is, IMHO, an overlooked gem.

Rick Nelson - no kidding ! I've often heard that live album was quite something. Never had the pleasure, myself. Thanks for the info.

Cheers !

When all the stars are falling down

Into the sea and on the ground,

And angry voices carry on the wind,

A beam of light will fill your head

And you'll remember whats been said

By all the good men this worlds ever known.

Another man is what you'll see,

Who looks like you and looks like me,

And yet somehow he will not feel the same,

His life caught up in misery, he doesnt think like you and me,

cause he can't see what you and I can see.

The sleeping hours takes us far

From traffic, telephones and fear

Put out your problems with the cat

Escape until a bell you hear

Our reasons are the same

But there's no-one we can blame

For there's nowhere we need go

And the only truth we know comes so easily

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft

Calling occupants of interplanetary ultra emissaries

We've been observing your earth

And one night we'll make contact with you

We are your friends

Back in 1870 just beneath the Great White Way

Alfred Beach worked secretly

Risking all to ride a dream

His wind-machine

His wind-machine

Rain drippin' off the brim of my hat, it sure looks cold today

Here I am walkin' down 66, wish she hadn't done me this way

Sleepin' under a table in a roadside park a man could wake up dead

But it sure seems warmer than it did sleeping in our king size bed

Is anybody going to San Antone or Phoenix Arizona

Any place is all right as long as I can forget I've ever known her

Wind whippin' down the neck of my shirt like I ain't got nothin on

But I'd rather fight the wind and rain than what I was fightin' at home

Is anybody going to San Antone or Phoenix Arizona

Any place is all right as long as I can forget I've ever known her.

Yonder comes a truck with the U.S. mail, people writin' letters back home

Well, tomorrow she'll want me back again and I'll be just as gone

Is anybody going to San Antone or Phoenix Arizona

Any place is all right as long as I can forget I've ever known her

I been worked by the rain, driven by the snow

Been drunk and dirty, don't you know

But I'm still willin' To be movin'

Out on the road late last night

Seen my pretty Alice in every headlight

Alice. Dallas Alice

I been fromn Tucson to Tucomcare.

Tahachepee to Tonapah

Driven every kind a rig that's ever been made.

Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed

And if you give me Weed, Whites and Wine

Show me a sign

And I'll be willin' To be movin'

BTW Rickkk. Have I mentioned your avatar. The album cover? In my top 5 all time favorites. Maybe top 2. It's in the slot in my PU as we speak. I've been listening for what? Over thirty years now? Never get tired of it. Amazing.

I fly a starship across the Universe divide

And when I reach the other side

I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can

Perhaps I may become a highwayman again

Or I may simply be a single drop of rain

But I will remain

And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

Hey Dan - same here. I remember trying to work up the nerve to call my first girlfriend on the phone for our first date back in '78 ... Put on "Blood On The Tracks" and Tangled Up In Blue somehow did the trick ....

Still listening to it (the remastered CD has been in my car since I bought it 6 months ago) and loving it.

Cheers !

Through the dust and smoke of that man-made hell

Walked a giant of a man that the miners knew well

He grabbed a sagging oak trimber and gave out with a groan

And like a huge oak tree he just stood there alone

Then with all his strength he gave a mighty shove

And a miner cried out, "There's a light up above."

And twenty men scrambeled from a would be grave

And now there's only one left down there to save

Big John

With jacks and timbers they started back down

Then came that rumble way down in the ground

Smoke and gas belched out of that mine

And everyone knew it was the end of the line

For Big John

Big John. Big John. Big bad John

In the event of something happening to me,

there is something I would like you all to see.

It's just a photograph of someone that I knew.

{ Have you seen my wife, Mr. Jones?

{ Do you know what it's like on the outside?

{ Don't go talking too loud, you'll cause a landslide, Mr. Jones.

I keep straining my ears to hear a sound.

Maybe someone is digging underground,

or have they given up and all gone home to bed,

thinking those who once existed must be dead.

Chorus:

In the event of something happening to me,

there is something I would like you all to see.

It's just a photograph of someone that I knew.

Chorus:

My love, she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn't have to say she's faithful
Yet she's true like ice, like fire
People carry roses
And make promises by the hour
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can't buy her

In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love, she speaks softly
She knows there's no success like failure
And that failure's no success at all

The cloak and dagger dangles
Madams light the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
Statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge

The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Bankers' nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night wind blows cold n' rainy
My love, she's like some raven
At my window with a broken wing

I took my love, I took it down

Climbed a mountain and I turned around

I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills

till the landslide brought me down

And the women once proud clutched the heart of the crown

As the boulders smashed down from the mountains hand

And the magic in the stare of the Wild Eyed Boy said

Stop, freecloud! They won't think to cut me down

But the cottages fell like the playing card hell

The tears on the face of a Wise Boy

Came trembling down to the rumbling ground

And the missionary mystic of peace/love

Stumbled back to cry among the clouds

Kicking back the pebbles

From the Freecloud mountain track

How sweet I roam'd from field to field,
And tasted all the summer's pride,
'Till I the prince of love beheld,
Who in the sunny beams did glide! -

He shew'd me lilies for my hair,
And blushing roses for my brow;
He led me through his gardens fair
Where all his golden pleasures grow. -

With sweet May dews my wings were wet,
And Phoebus fir'd my vocal rage;
He caught me in his silken net,
And shut me in his golden cage. -

He loves to sit and hear me sing,
Then, laughing, sports and plays with me;
Then stretches out my golden wing,
And mocks my loss of liberty.

I fell asleep down by a stream

And there I had the strangest dream

And down by Brennan's Glen there grows

A Briar and a Rose

It's beens so long I don't know when

But I was born in Brennan's Glen

And near the end of spring there grows

A Briar and a Rose

There's a tree in the forest

I don't know where

I built a nest out of your hair

And climbing up into the air

A Briar and a Rose

I picked a rose one early morn

I pricked my finger on a thorn

They've grown so close their winding wove

The Briar round the Rose

I tried to tear them both apart

I felt a bullet in my heart

And all dressed up in spring's new clothes

The Briar and the Rose

And when I'm buried and in my grave

Tell me that so I will know

Your tears will fall to make love grow

The Briar and the Rose

Caught between the air and the moonlit deep

You floated like a lilly flower

And you look just like you fell to earth to sleep

And you're waiting for your waking hour

And I swear to God I saw an angel hand attend you

Must have been the dancing of the light

No mortal or immortal

Did deliver or defend you

All hands have forsaken you tonight.

Are you dreaming of a lover who will carry you away?

And take you from the crying of the crowd?

No cradle in the rushes, you are broken like the day

And darkness all around you like a shroud

And I swear to God I saw an angel hand attend you

Must have been the dancing of the light

No mortal or immortal

Did deliver or defend you

All hands have forsaken you tonight.

When they finally surrounded you did any of them face you?

And did you curse the moon and stars above?

Those cruel arms abandoned you for water to embrace you

Won't you lay your head my waterlilly love?

And I swear to God I saw an angel hand attend you

Must have been the dancing of the light

No mortal or immortal

Did deliver or defend you

All hands have forsaken you tonight.

time is contagious... everybody's getting old.

Time is a jet plane, it moves too fast,

Oh, but what a shame,

if all we've shared can't last.

I can change, I swear, oh,

See what you can do.

I can make it through,

You can make it too.

There again in the light,

a bit of yellow laughs and fluffs

in the gentle breeze.

Where does the daisy come from

and where does it go.

It will die in a day

and the brown leaves piled thick

will be the same as before

only now forgotten.

The shadows of the trees lying

black and thick like the leaves

untill that first day's sun comes again

with the smell of the earth

and a flower.

Heartstrings Dan. Good on you to remember him here.

Where have all the flowers gone

Long time passing

Where have all the flowers gone

Long time ago

Where have all the flowers gone

Young girls picked them, everyone

When will they ever learn

When will they ever learn
