All this talk of honesty and the VOM1T makes me want to share some clams from my participation at a recent "real" open mic. The following three songs were done without any second chances and the recordings were only lightly edited by me for the sake of getting rid of extra chit-chat at the beginning and end of each clip.

Thanks, folks!

jtjpilot: trust me, it's not that hard once you find a song that you can relate to, overcome your doubts in or accept the limits of your musical abilities and get comfortable opening yourself in front of your peers. Open mics are great for that since there usually aren't many critics there, just fellow "muckers."

IbanezDtryr: go for it - it's not that hard. There are only 4 chords: C, F, Am and G. The biggest challenge is hitting that high note. :freak:

threecar: thanks! That's one of those songs that I learned a long time ago and feel "safe" playing. I chose it because the vocal style in very similar to the once I used for "Falling Slowly."

Now I would've hoarded that set for three months of VOM submissions! :D

You're quite a vocalist, Kwak! Your choice of songs really shows off your voice. I'm envious. I wish I had range!

Sounds like a nice open mic venue. And the background chatting quieted right down by the time you got to Wild World.

Using the Tak, I presume?

Thanks, branson. I've been actively working on my vocals; there's still room for improvement IMO but I'm pretty confident with it. It's actually pretty gratifying because it allows me to release a lot of anxious energy and use it more constructively.

BTW, yeah that's the Tak. The Larrivee is a better guitar but IMO its freqs overlap the same range as my vocals; the Tak is no Martin but compared to the Larrivee it has more bass and less mids.

As for the background chatter, yeah I noticed that they were chatting it up for the first song but didn't let it daunt me too much. There were a pair of sisters there with their entire family. Their dad was up right before me playing a couple of Steven Stills songs (even got his family to sing back up from the crowd) so I think he may have hushed them for the Cat song. He complimented me on it afterwards which made me happy. All in all they're a good bunch of people and the real reason why I like going to open mics.
