Members rbm
I have never read of such love/hate reviews on any pup in my life! What gives?
Members batotman
Well. ....my ultimate bridge pickup sucks in the neck....despite reviews saying otherwise!!!
Members Bro V
I think a lot of guys are very absolute about their opinions about pickups, particularly the JB.

Members Barryj61
People use JB's in almost anything, but I don't think they sound good in a lot of guitars. I've had JB's in 3 different guitars; here's my (very biased) opinion: JB + basswood - sounds like ass. JB + alder - sounds......mediocre. Not bad, not great either. JB + mahogany - sounds like GOD......

Members Filter500
Different playing styles. Some ppl need the edge on their chug, some people don't chug at all and wonder why it sounds the way it does.

Members floods81
How do you guys think a JB would sound in a Hamer SATQ? For those who don't know, it'a an LP DC style guitar with mahogany body and veneer maple top. I'm buying one, but the stock pups are a little low output. I was thinking about a JB/59 pup combo, any opinions? I'm basically trying to make a $350 used guitar sound something like a Les Paul. Any other recommendations? Depends on personal preference and what guitar it's in. Billie Joe Armstrong used a JB in a Strat copy for all of Green Day's albums up until Nimrod, when he started branching out, and for that style, his tone is unmatched. And it's mainly distorted chords.
Members Leo Chang
the JB in the bridge of my Schecter C-1 Classic (mahogany) sounds extremely good for what I play (mostly '80's metal, neoclassical metal...etc)
Members Panther
JB in the SL sounds muddy (compared to Dimarzio in JC), but..different woods. And I do have 500k pot in SL.
Members meverett
In my experience, standard effect pedals tend to clip the guitar's high end. The JB will compensate for that clip by starting out a little high on the treble. I seldom use my JB clean, but love it dirty.
Members Negative K3 fan
i love the versatility of the JB and i like brightness, both in amps and in guitars. I don't find the JB horribly bright though, it's really nice and you can use it for anything, or at least, I do.

Thats why i can understand why people like the JB/jazz combo better, the jazz is supposed to be brighter and more modern sounding. Id seriously consider bothe the JB/59 combo and the JB/jazz combo. Members Jeff5
Its also a touchy pup. You really have to adjust the height to get it to sound like you want. I personally love mine. Great rythym crunch, and just sings beautifully for leads.

Members mad axe man
what most love about the JB is that it is vintage- modern sounding by that i mean it can do all the classic rock and then do metal the next second if desired. it has great "CUT" and a singing lead voice with mucho harmonics i happen to love mine in my jackson. Members kirs
I love the JB. I lean more toward the bright sound so they are a natural to me. The neck pickup is for clean, for high gain I hit the JB bridge. Love it.
Members Brian Krashpad
I didn't know it was controversial. At any rate, I have the Jazz/JB pair in my Fernandes Ravelle and love it death. BK
