Hello everyone, I have a question about getting signed to a record label. If someone has a band could they get signed without a singer (too a major record label) and if they could get signed and dont have a singer would a record label supply them with one?

- Thanks and please reply ASAP! -

Major Record labels expect you to have a complete act together - and with a fan base besides. The singer is the most important part of the package. Lacking the singer/frontman would be like having a chicken farm without the chickens.

evh, find a singer...if your band is that good, you should be able to find a comparable singer.

I mean seriously, why would a label even listen to an 'incomplete' band?

Why would you expect any label interest?

Are you gigging?

Are you touring or selling out 500 seat venues locally?

Do you actually think you can send an instrumental demo to a label and they will magically match you to some great singer they have under contract who just happens to be missing exactly the band you have... this kind of thing happens in movies and TV...but not so much in the real world.

Now on the flip side, you guys might want to try selling your instrumentals as background music, check out some music libraries or services like TAXI...

The days of record companies signing bands to development deals are over. But even when they developed bands, they didn't provide bands with singers. They did provide plenty of singers with bands, though.

Major label deals are for losers. All they are is an unsecured line of credit in which you get to pay back your share five cents at a time (that's your share of the CD sales) and the labels will have a half-million dollars on your books before you can blink.

You're far better off making a record on your own dime and marketing it on the internet. Of course if the label drops you, that debt goes away but with DIY options in abundance, why would you entrust your career to people who want to rob you blind and spit you out like a gnawed-on chicken bone?
