Members cloudnine
Even on "gifts" I have to pay brokerage most of the time.
Members ending_zero
Isn't the brokerage fee the fee paid to the shipper (UPS, DHL, FedEx, or other broker) to process the shipment through customs? Does marking a package 'gift' get you out of paying customs duties? Do you pay brokerage fees for packages sent through the postal service? Members DaleH
$5.00 if shipped USPS.Not sure how the shipper calculates the brokerage fees.A % of the value of the item?
Members cloudnine
Yeah, with USPS it's just a handling fee plus whatever taxes you owe (unless it's a gift). Takes longer but can save you bundles. UPS is by far the worst. They take approximately 15% ON TOP of the taxes, just for signing a {censored}ing form. Makes me angry. Members Armitage
Brokerage fees are charged by the shipper. It doesn't matter if it's a gift or not.

I just want to confirm this because I had heard otherwise and it seems like such an obvious loophole that it would have been closed by now. However, sometimes, customs will just throw you a loop for no good reason.
Members DaleH
I don't know about the gift thing. Just that USPS is a lot less brokerage.
Members ending_zero
Ok, I'll start marking my Canadian shipments as gifts. I always use USPS unless a package is too large or heavy.
Members supercow3
I just got a package last month from the states, marked as a gift, no fees at all..not even brokerage...weird
Members OutOfElement
It's hit and miss. According to import regulations, gifts worth more than $60 Canadian are taxable on the amount exceeding $60, but in my experience that hasn't always been the case. They get me more often than not, though.

Members expertune
Once I shipped sth to States, it worth $280, Fedex wanted to charge me $40 for f*cking brokerage. Even ship to States! So I called them and claimed it's only worth $180, and everything's ok after that. Damn those carriers. I like Canadapost and US Postal service
Members supercow3
Why would they charged you and not the person you are shipping to?
