look in his sig

they're SX's a 57 and a 62

prolly cost him about $500 for the 2 guitars, pickups, and new pickguards

as a matter of fact, i made the pickguards myself. the pickups were sold to me real cheap. i may have $325 tied up in both guitars. both are very giggable. infact, i play both at least 6-10 hours a week on the gigs. neither shows any signs of wear or rust.

and they're a lot lighter weight than a gibby on my shoulder and neck. thats why i modded these guitars instead of getting a LP with p90s. i cant find a p90 SG in a lefty.

i suppose i could mod any guitar with p-90's. it's not real hard if you have a dremel and some sandpaper.:thu:

these aren't sg guitars, but it is possible to put p-90s in any guitar if you really want them.
:D

I think this forum, appreciates P-90's more than the "real world."
Sad to say I do not know ONE single guitarists, who uses P-90's.
95% of my friends who have electrics; either strats or humbuckers.
The other 5%; teles, or single coil/humbucker hybrids (I.E. like a Squier '51).

I agree with pretty much everyone's descriptions.

I tend to think of P-90s as simply sounding somewhere between a single coil and a humbucker. Of course the P-90s ARE a single coil, but I imagine you can figure out what I mean. More mid focused than a humbucker, but with more testosterone and body than a strat/tele single coil.

But I have them in three guitars

Gibson Classic SG
Gibson LP Jr.
Squier Tele Custom II

Each has a different tone.

SG is brighter
LP Jr is deeper and more "vowel-like"
Squier is darker

But I enjoy them all.

(If you find yourself up there, take a raft trip...seriously! Nice whitewater, pretty Appalachian scenery, nary a randy hillbilly in sight, though they may be watchin' you when you ain't a-lookin'.)

Actually, it's Frederick County, Maryland.
FRedNeck county, to everyone else, 'cept the locals.
Turn on the radio to hear; C&W, C&W, and more C&W.
To hear some decent EE-LEC-TRICK geetar blues, you have to go to the local biker bar.
My old Yamaha is REALLY appreciated, among a sea of Harleys!

Well they look great, and i'll bet they sound even better.

Any chance of some sound clips? I'd love to hear a long-scale guitar with P-90's in action.

We had a little jam session in the living room last p.m. One of me buds picked up the Hohner HS-35 with the P-90s (in the pic above), I played a Strat, and the bassist thumped a JB.

Jeebus, but that Hohner had the tone of the gods...articulate and rich, barky and growly when it needed to be and smooth as a lass's ass when it wanted. (Thanks Pete!)

as a matter of fact, i have a bluesy Delbert McClinton song I arranged and fiddled around with. I used my SX SST57. the P90s are from an Agile 2500 goldtop that i installed.

I used a Blues Junior and a 57 beta mic. There are effects on the guitar from the internal effects of my old Roland VS-880 recorder.

here ya go

mp3 of my SX SST57

there are tons of different tones i can get out of this guitar. it takes pedals real well. the cleans are nice and crisp. i can chickin pick with it too. there is some tele twang in there if needed.

Just get a set of Strat-sized P-90s from Pete Biltoft. Simple swap. Brilliant!
I have a set in a Protone Strat and they deliver... amazing!

If you have to have the soapbar look, that's one thing. However, for P-90 tone and responsiveness, these do the job in spades.

shoeless:

I like Cactus Flats.
My wife won't go near the place.
Another reason to like Cactus Flats.
For a biker bar, it's mellowed in it's old age.
Back in the day, it was Friday & Saturday fight night.
The Washington Redskins, would come down from training camp, get liquored up, then bump heads with some of the local biker gangs.
No refs, no flags = no foul!!
Now the music's good, & the beer is cold!
And people actually use the urinals, instead of the sink!
God, I miss the good old days!
