Members burton4snow
The guy at my local guitar shop told me instead of getting a pocket rocket or dean stack in the box get a Korg pedal, I think, and they run on batteries and there is an output for headphones. Any Truth to this?
Members Alchemist
Yes, digital multi FX pedals also work as headphone amps and they sound great! Especialy the ones that have cab sims as well, such as the POD:thu:

Most of the other ones (even other Korgs) should be just fine...
Members RUExp?
Get a used Zoom GM-200. Works great as headphone amp.
Members JWS
I use to use a Digitech RP50 as a headphone amp. It worked very well. It also had a drum machine to add to your playing pleasure. An RP80 is similar but also has an expression pedal. Both of these are relatively inexpensive ($50-80). For a little bit more (about $100), you can get a Zoom PFX3000. It is very small and has everything that most multiFX units have. Through headphones, all of these probably sound fine, and they sound okay when going through an amp as well, although there are better multiFX units out there.
