Members cratz2
When it stops sounding like The Stones or AC/DC and starts sounding like Metallica/Megadeth or the aforementioned Pantera, you are moving into high gain territory. Yeah I wasn't trying to out "low tune" that guy It was meant as a joke because 90 percent of the time I'm playing with just a bit of overdrive on the clean channel and I'm playing classic rock or the blues in standard E. I was just trying to say that heavy riffage is certainly not horrible...and even though many people make fun of drop tuning it has it's merits also.Of course drop slinky string tuning like the A/E/A/D/G/B is pretty ridiculous and I really cannot think of a reason anyone would do that but...........I bet my riffs are 90x heavier than that guys which of course would make them an even ten times heavier than Sonnilon's

Members spinedriver
Well, I have an LTD MHB-400 baritone with EMG 81's, and the other guy uses Zakk Wylde 70's on an Ibanez RG320 and a Jackson Kelly. The tension is comparable to standard tuning actually. I woudn't be playing it otherwise (cuz I REALLY hate floppy strings) Here's a link to a (very) rough demo of one of our tracks. http://www.welcometothedownside.com/jointheband/dial.mp3(ps. the vocals aren't even done yet.. )

I know what you mean. I use drop D a fair bit, actually, but I'm more of a mid-gain man. My amp doesn't actually do high-gain, and my guitar probably couldn't handle it either. VERY high-gain, that is. Although it's fun to piss about with pedals.
