Members beavis1957
The only preamps I've ever tracked with other than my old Roland VS1880 are the built-in pre's on my RME fireface and an FMR RNP(which I love). Will this be the huge step-up I'm hoping it is? My understanding is these pres are where it's at for drums, and often guitars, but rarely a great option for vox. I'm gonna die waiting on the big brown truck! Any suggestions or comments?
Members UstadKhanAli
I'm not familiar with that particular API, but yeah, you're in for a treat. It's a LOT different from an RNP, which is relatively clear. An API imparts a certain je ne se quois to the sound. Use one or the other depending on the application!!!! Phil O'Keefe
I have a 3124+ that I use on drums a lot, and I really do love it in that application. It's "fast" and aggressive sounding; colored, but yet not in the same way as something like a 1073. It really is a great rock preamp. And yes, it is great on guitars too... and as far as vocals, don't listen to what "they" say - try it for yourself and see what you think. Your FMR is still going to sound good to you and be useful. But I suspect you're going to really like your new API. Let us know what you think once you've had a chance to try it out for a bit.
