Just got a great deal on an API3124+. Am I in for great things?

The only preamps I've ever tracked with other than my old Roland VS1880 are the built-in pre's on my RME fireface and an FMR RNP(which I love).

Will this be the huge step-up I'm hoping it is?

My understanding is these pres are where it's at for drums, and often guitars, but rarely a great option for vox.

I'm gonna die waiting on the big brown truck! Any suggestions or comments?

I have a 3124+ that I use on drums a lot, and I really do love it in that application. It's "fast" and aggressive sounding; colored, but yet not in the same way as something like a 1073. It really is a great rock preamp. And yes, it is great on guitars too... and as far as vocals, don't listen to what "they" say - try it for yourself and see what you think. :)

Your FMR is still going to sound good to you and be useful. But I suspect you're going to really like your new API. :)

Let us know what you think once you've had a chance to try it out for a bit.
