which royer should I get?

the R-121 or the R-122? I will be using it primarily on electric guitar. I'm not getting the tone I want with a 57 or e609. It seams rather brash and thin to me on playback. May also use it for snare, percussion and acoustic.

Which would be better suited. I am leaning towards the r-122

thanks

Amigo.

The preamp(s) you plan to use the microphone with will probably determine which would be a better choice for you. If you already have a good preamp that is capable of giving you 60-70dB of clean gain, you can save some money by going with the 121. If you don't, you'll probably appreciate the extra 14dB (IIRC) of output from the active 122.

I used Royer SF-12 for jazz drums overheads, violin, piano and vocal. Very natural and great sound, love it. Used it with AEA TRP pre-amp where gain is 85 dB. This pre-amp is designed for use with ribbon mikes. Another great preamp is Grace M101.
