Members utterhack
The Muff is a fine pedal but definitely NOT what you're looking for. You want something that sounds like a cranked marshall.

Members CrackerD
Dimarzio SD + Cranked Marshall JCM 800. Or you can just find your own tone with whatever equipment you happen to use.

Members bluesboy
flame me if you must, but if your gear is good (ie a decent guitar with a decent amp) a boss DS1 will suit you just fine for classic rock, hard rock, anything but heavy metal really

Members Suspicious Mail
Originally posted by redeyejedi75 a turbo RAT. Agreed, but I like the classic rat or rat II better than the turbo. Anyhoo, just about any one of them is a little metal box full of classic hard rock. *edit* Here's clips of the Turbo Rat. Rat II's clips are 404'ed, sadly: http://www.procosound.com/soundbytesturbo.htm Also definitely agreed that you don't want a Big Muff to do KISS- type sounds with. I've got one of those too, but it's an altogether different kind of beast.

I'm no cork sniffer at all, but I like 70s rock and had a 50W plexi and a few decent guitars, that pedal still sounded bad. For me BD2 is definitely the one in that price range.
