Members 9520575
Yes, I need to go to school on microphones. I am recording into cubase using a presounce firewire interface. And currently using an old yard sale $5 mic. Which sounds brittle, and I like it that way. But I am also in need of a clearer sound for vocals, acoustic guitar, and various noise making items. I have been looking at ribbon mics, for options. Now I know I can not use phantom power. But am I in need of a pre-amp of some sort? And what is a good price range for an all right ribbon (do I even need one?) Mic? Not looking to spend more then a hundred. I'm not recording an album I really don't know what dynamic, and condenser mic's are for. Needless to say, I like my electric guitar sounds but hate my vocals. And not in "my voice sounds bad." In like, "why isn't this mic'ed better." thanks P.s. Neat forum you have here. Totally new to me!

Members TimOBrien
Good starter guide for techniques You need a strong mic pre (preferably higher-end) for ribbons. Start off with a Shure SM-57 or 58 and wait till you learn more and have more pennies.....

Members TimOBrien
You mean an interface (which would have preamp(s) in it.) Go HERE for starters and bookmark the entire guide; you'll want to read the whole thing....
