Agathis? (Squier question)

Well, agathis is kind of poo- pooed because you'll find it on many inexpensive makes of guitar. The reason for this is that they make a lot of inexpensive guitars in Asia, where agathis is quite plentiful.

I have an agathis bass. After swapping the pups it's a pretty nice little axe, very lightweight... it lacks a little oooph, though. That may be the soft wood, maybe not I dunno.

I have a question for you guys. Why are the Squier Affinity series made with Alder while the Squier Standard series are made with Agathis?

 

I realize there are some exceptions to this, but this seems to generally be true. I would think that the more expensive Standard series would be made of Alder as that's what Fenders are made of.
