RIP Guitar One

I just received that first issue of Guitar World as a replacement for GuitarOne. Spent about twenty minutes looking through it and went directly to GW's website and asked that I get a refund for the remaining time on my subscription to G1.

Sorry if anyone likes GW but to me it is a worthless rag. G1 wasn't perfect by any means but it was far above this GW stuff.

I just got my first guitar World issue also. I'll go ahead and let the subscription run out, but I will definitely not renew. Guitar World was the one magazine of the three - GP, G1 and GW - that I did not like.

Guitar world has diminished as a worthwhile magazine for the practising/professional musician to the point that it reminds me of maxim magazine now.

It caters to the beginners which is fine but its filled with incorrect information and will only serve to help produce a long line of ignorant guitar players who can't read and don't know what they are doing or how to communicate with other musicians.

Some of the collumns are great but the amount of tripe you have to navigate through before you get to the good stuff makes the magazine a waste of time.

I was really upset that they chose to do this. I would have loved an option of a refund before they sent out GW to me so I could have prevented receiving an issue.

I'm probably in the minority, but I am A Guitar World reader. I may not like all of the articles/bands they cover, but there is usually something in there that I am interested in. Same with Guitar Player. I never read Guitar One much, but it's demise sucks for all of those who were fans.

I have a Guitar World magazine from 1988. I also have one from 2007. They are worlds apart. The classic has articles from Joe Satriani and Tony McAlpine and articles about players such as John Patitucci (bassist extraordinaire) and Yngwie Malmsteen in his heyday. The second is trash.

UK mags truly are a step ahead, and double the price to boot. :/

Speaking of the UK guitar magazines, I may be in the minority but I wouldn't mind paying double the price for a magazine as long as it has some worth-while content.

The GW issue I saw did remind me of a Maxxim mag (which I think is cr*p as well). I don't care about the "guitarist's", I use that term loosely, ruminations or opinions on life. I want to know about playing MUSIC and GUITARS, AMPS, etc. Do we really need another lame interview with ZW? What is the point in that?

Sorry, slipped into "rant" mode for a second. Hey, for what it's worth, I promptly got a reply from GW customer service stating that they would be sending my out a check for the remainder of my subscription. If the quality of their service is anything like their magazine, well, I won't be holding my breath but it did make me feel better.

I also found out the same way as several of you when Guitar World arrived instead of Guitar One. I don't care for Guitar World, but it's better than reading Ladies Home Journal. I'm with tehuti, I'll let it run out and not resubscribe. I got the original Guitar One subscription so cheaply on a deal that it's not worth cancelling it for the money, anyway.

To me, the beginning of the end was when G1 and Guitar World started putting CDs in their newsstand issues. That made them so expensive that I reduced my purchase of the mags from every other month or so to once or twice a year due to the cost (and the fact that the bag enclosing the magazine and the CD kept me from looking to see what might be of interest).

The UK guitar mags are really, really good. It's unfortunate that Guitarist seems to be $15 to $16 on the newstands here, so I don't get it unless there's something of serious interest to me.

R.I.P. Guitar One. I'll miss you.

I like Guitar Player. I can read it without having people around me think its porn. Plaus its just. . . better.

I like GP best too, but I liked getting G1 in the mail-sometimes a good tab would be in there and their gear reviews were better than GW's, which are useless. I haven't heard of Premier Guitar-I'll check it out if I can find one.

Yeah, I have one from '90 with Nuno, Paul Gilbert, and Richie Kotzen. I think. Definitely Nuno and Richie, I'm not entirely sure if Paul Gilbert was in that one.

Funny thing is, the only other issue I have is one from a couple months ago that my boss bought for me, and it had a Paul Gilbert article in it too.
