Members Brewski
Don't know about the neck joint, but the swiss cheese and chambering was adirect result of people complaining about the weight of the Les Paul. Now I spent three hours using a Les Paul last night and got real sore - it's notthe weight of the guitar though, I have a standard strap - to be comfortable with where the guitar lays on your shoulder you need a wide strap. I don't buy chambered guitars if I can help it (had one as a teenager and couldn't control the feedback) so I don't own a Gibson Les Paul.
Members bluelegacy
That routed BFG body blank is nasty. That 'me no want' dog picture comes to mind.

I hear ya, But as it has been said befor......I think people were figuring that Gibson would start using lighter pcs of SOLID mahogany rather than start drilling and gutting heavy "cheaper" pcs. Kind of funny really...like getting them three wishes from an evil imp or something, you get what you want but in the end not how you wanted:lol:
Members Burningleaves
Here's what a neck joint should look like I think good ol' Les himself wanted a neck through with "wings" on the side if I am not mistaken. A far cry from how it all turned out thats for sure.

They have a You-tube floating around that has a factory tour where the guy shows and talks about the new "gutted" way they are making them. I can't seem to find it. Mabye it was pulled. Members Ancient Mariner
I keep hearing good reports about the tone of the new chambered LPs. I've not tried one yet, but the best ever Gibson LP I've ever played was a studio lite with similar but more extensive chambering. This is interesting too - the 'Maraca effect'. http://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130519
