Members bmast160
looked at an american deluxe tele s-1 and you could kinda see a knot thru the finish...its in the wood of the body... do knots in a guitar's wood have any large affect on sustain of a guitar or have any affect on tone? Members CompleteGuitard
I'd only worry if they were in the neck, and thats only because they might cause warping. In a strat body it won't do any harm at all, and adds some character.
Members clay sails
If the neck is in a knot, then you might have some intonation issues.
Members larryguitar
A knot-an actual knot, not figuring that surrounded a knot-would worry me. It's a discontinuity in the wood, with grain running in an opposing direction. With time and temperature changes, it could (conceivably) loosen. FWIW

Members valentsgrif
tone vortex This is the correct answer. ^ Knots, particularly in the ash or alder bodies, are actually black holes through which all auditory matter will eventually be drawn towards and ultimately sucked through. Scientist do not fully understand what happens to tone once it goes over to the other side.
