So I've been checking out the Chinese version of eBay (Taobao) and ran across this. For the people who don't believe that they also fake lowly Epiphones here are some comparison pics between a fake Epiphone G-400 Custom and my genuine one. :)

Fake

Genuine

Fake - Diamond is too large & the truss rod cover doesn't say "Les Paul Custom"

Genuine

Fake - Wrong knobs & switch tip

Fake - note the font of the serial number and the control plate which should be black (don't have a picture of mine handy, but trust me)

Genuine

I probably missed a few things, but I hope you get the idea.

Nope, since the Epiphone plant is owned & run by Gibson that's highly unlikely. And don't you think they could produce better copies if that were the case? Not even the serial number font is correct.

but made by same workers and otherwise identical

No. Not made by the same workers or even in the same factory.

But that doesn't even bother me. Put their own DongDong or SuoperGuitar logo on it, and voila, I might give it a try.

noticed the washed out color of the fake,

I think they are made in the same factory, just as samick and others used to make them yet made their own house brand..

Just for those wondering, the quoted post was an attempt at humor.

Some other stuff.

Fake has a different bridge (no retaining wire).

Fake has different tailpiece studs. (rounded top vs. square top on real Epi)

Knob placement on the fake is wrong.

Pickguard edges on the fake are not beveled.

Notice also that the pickup adjusting screws on the fake are not gold.

I'll bet the average guy (or gal) wouldn't catch any of the differences.
