Members ievans
Hey all. What do you think of these? I think I've come to the conclusion that I prefer 24.75 scale guitars, even thought I really like my Tele 72 Deluxe RI. My playing is so much sloppier when I switch between my Casino or Danelectro to the Tele. So I'm thinking I need a good heavier humbucker guitar to replace the Deluxe. How much do you think a SG1500 in good shape would go for? I'm going to check out the one above on Monday. I prefer chrome hardware over gold, so finding a black 1500 with an ebony fingerboard is kind of nice. I've always liked the shape as well. Members tincob
What do I think? Get it. What should it cost? Anywhere from $500 to $800 depending on the condition and how clueless the seller is. Good luck and let us know via a NGD if you get it.
Members GAS Man
I dunno, I have a SBG700S which has been a bit of a chore. I'm working on putting in my second set of replacement pickups and I'm happy to say it's working. First the stock pickups were dull and lifeless, second a '59/PG combo was muddy/piercing thin & bright. But now I've gone to a Gibson 500T in the bridge and that worked so I bought a Gibson 496 which will end up in the neck. I think it will mop up the mud just fine. It seems to work well as a harder rocker, so I'm turning it into my "poor-man's" Gibson LP Classic. Anyway, I'm not sure where the 1500 model roles in, but some of these Yammy SGs are just a work in process. On the upside, I think the guitar has a nice feeling neck, decent action and well. I could send you mine for $600 +$30 S&H with the Gibson 496 zebra still needing to be installed and you could keep the '59 once you've got it pulled. It has a neck through design and IIRC it has the same high output pickups that the SG2000 has. It doesn't have the brass bridge block and the binding/inlay is different from the SG2000 but I could live with that. The SG1500 is a different guitar altogether from GAS's SBG700S, which has a lower spec level - no offence intended GAS. Knowing from experience how good the SG2000 is, I would go for it ** edit ** My mistake. The SG1500 in your pic could well have the sustain block. It should be easy to spot once you get a look at it. Members zenbu
? think the 1500s were pretty much 2000s with less bling.

It's just class All joking aside, I see the SG2000 as just a well appointed guitar. If you take the SG3000 ..... Now that's what I do call 'bling'. Members zenbu
steady as she goes... don`t get your knickers in a twist...I meant fretboard inlays and chrome hardware. Read the excellent article on Yamaha SGs at the Vintage Guitar web site, I printed it out and keep it with me in case I come across SGs in local shops. No need to educate me on Yamahas, I own my share.

Members GuitarHitman
I'd love a Yamaha SG range guitar. I've been GAS'ing an SG2000 since I played my old guitar tutor's SG2000. I've never played a guitar with an action so low but the thing was like carrying a brick wall.

Members ievans
Thanks for the advice and data, everyone. I decided, after the Ebay 10% off coupon and the live.com 25% discount, to pick up a used Gibson SG Standard in ebony. It'll be $625 shipped. The guy was asking $1000 for the SG1500. One day I'll get a Yammy SG.
Members zenbu
yeah I`d really like an older Yamaha SG but won`t buy until after Christmas at least. Members wader2k
yup....not sure about the sg1500 ....but the sg2000's run roughly $1000.. I love mine....
Members Musicscotty
I think you'll find that SG2000's have went up in price by a fair bit recently. That may not last with the economic dip but if you can get one at $1,000 these days it would be a real bargain.

Members ievans
No, you were the CL seller and I was considering it. I found your classified posting on here while researching, and contacted you directly. It certainly looked like a nice one. The live.com rebate was too tempting, and I bought a Gibson SG Standard for a good price before I could check out your SG1500. Glad it worked out for you to get lefty the 2000. Cheers.
