Members denimboy
I got my friend's Gibson SG that has some sort of pick up problem. When switched to bridge pick-up, there is no signal coming from the guitar. I opened the back plate and verified the switch and connections with pots and everything is working properly. Now I can't look into the pick-ups because the lower part is soldered to the cover part. There is only a braid shielded wire going through the pick-up. Any tips ? I don't want to mess the pick-up's inside.
Members Burningleaves
Does the bridge pup work when in the middle switch position?

Members ashasha
Most definitive way to check to see if it is the pickup is to hook it up directly to a guitar chord and try it out. I don't know what you've got for jumpers and stuff so you may have to be creative, but it will isolate it. If its good then you've probably got a bad connection or possibly a bad switch. If you get nothing you know what the problem is.
Members denimboy
I cleaned the switch and checked for continuity point-to-point form guitar output to bridge adn everything seems okay. I also tested the guitar while tapping on the connections and none is failing. I'm pretty much sure it is the pup now. Should I open it ?
Members oryan
Have you tried testing the lead with a digital multimeter?
Members whiteop
Maybe a bad pickup ....try another one in it's place and see if you can hear anything when you tap on it. If you can, it's the pickup....
Members Burningleaves
Completely disconnecting the bridge pup and taking a resistance reading on the pup would rule out it being the source.
Members Pope on a Rope
Pots and or switch probably need cleaning. If you didn't mess with anything inside and you don't see anything wrong chances are you just need to clean your electronics. Get a can of contact cleaner preferably with a lubricant and try that first.
Members denimboy
I did clean the electronics. What resistance reading should I get on the pup ? The pick-up start working again. Probably some dust in the switch leads. I will redo some soldering where I suspect cold joints.
Members ashasha
If it is isolated and depending on the model anywhere from 8K-12K is probably normal. I know that 57 Classics come in at just under 8K.
