i had to drop Suit's minimoog on some **************** last night... normally i listen to a song about 8 or 9 times after i finish it, but this one i can't stop!

                http://soundcloud.com/donaldcrunk/anatomy-3-3-10-mix

there are one or two minor problems with the mix, but im really not worried about this one. these are all works in progress until i drop the full album anyway...

that being said i think this will be one of the stronger songs on the record. it's definitely sexy!

hey scenic, like the song.. the beat, the whole setting.

however, your backing vocals (the higher octave) need tuning at a few points. also, minimoog bass is out of tune with the rest of the arrangement, especially clashes with the lead/back vocals.

can't tell for sure from the recording, but beside tuning, check if its tracking (i.e. V/Oct) is accurate too.

                Here's another Memorymoog song.

This time I'm playing something more modern... a cross between modern House, Joy Division/New Order, Minimalistic, and '70s Tomitesque stuff- basically a big meltingpot of genres, but I think it's rather hypnotic

                Memorymoog demo-modern.mp3

Moog Memorymoog = all synthesizer parts

                Yamaha TX16W = choir

                Roland GrooveSynth = drums

                Recorded/edited/mixed in Sonar 8 pe

uh oh ahh phenomenal sounds especially the (jarre-sque) octave lead line. the beauty of Curtis sound. fantastic theme too, definetely hypnotic

minor suggestion is perhaps lower the cutoff, a bit on the big saw bass on the parts when its solo, esp on sustained note. it's lil over the top being so bright and colesterole filled

man, that choir also sounds fantastic, which samples are those ..something 3rd party or yamahas original? reverb?

Clusterchord - thank you very much.

You're right about the cutoff. I recorded that demo very quickly, so I didn't pay too much attention to mixing/editing... I just went by "feel".

                  [geek mode]

Yes, that "vaguely-mellotronic" choir sample is very nice. The TX16W is a classic sampler, capable of great sound - but as all older samplers, it's slow to use. These days we're all accustomed to waiting a couple of seconds to load a gig worth of samples - it's not exactly a great feeling having to wait a couple of minutes to load 1/2Mb

This is the choir sample by itself, without any effects:

                  Yamaha TX16W choir DRY

And this is with the effects

                  Yamaha TX16W choir WET

The effects I used are all within Sonar: Phase, Reverb, Boost and Vintage Compressor:

These are the four effects in detail:

Where does the sample come from? I'm not 100% sure, but I think this choir sample is a Yamaha factory sound. Some time ago I got a library on eBay: the previous owner had copied many of his original Yamaha disks. This is the set I used (comes in two diskettes):

There is also another really good CHOIR sample for the TX16W: this one:

                  TX16W - addtnl. choir sample

This was from a previous "Guess the sampler" game I posted some time ago, and it's freely available at http://www.madtheory.com/Yamaha/

                    I loved that !

I also agree about the cutoff of the bass - it kind of drills a hole in your head.

One (if you want to call it) suggestion would be to change the chord in the chorus... unless you were going for that "one chord song" - but I'd love to hear a different chord(s) other than D at the chorus... great job

I know what you mean regarding the lack of chord changes. In this particular song it was kind of intentional as it evolved from a drone piece...

I may revisit the chorus again to add a harmony part...or even revamp it along those lines. I just don't know yet.
