Members rasputin1963
Sad news: Ken Russell the great English director of many musical films, such as Tommy, Lisztomania, The Music Lovers and many more, died in his sleep on Sunday. He and I had just exchanged comments on FACEBOOK on Saturday. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/nov/28/ken-russell-dies-aged-84?fb=native&CMP=FBCNETTXT9038 [video=youtube;u9WGIYjxzVU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9WGIYjxzVU Some of you will prove your WHO cred by stating that you liked the origibnal THE WHO's album better than the movie, but that {censored}ing movie MADE my whole adolescence. This movie was doing MTV material before there was an MTV.
Members scarecrowbob
I gotta say, that scene in Tommy with the champagne/bean blast really... left an impression on me. I think the Devils is a pretty dang good film, too. RIP.
Members blue2blue
RIP, Mr Russell. It's nice he died in his sleep, I guess, but it's so out of keeping... he did every else so large... I haven't seen all his movies, by a stretch, but I remember being knocked out by The Devils, which, if I recall, was the first Ken Russell movie I saw and was quite different from his over-the-top celebrations of the composers or the goofy excess of Tommy. Not that it wasn't quite over-the-top in its own, dark way. A hell of a director who made up the rules he played by.
