Moderators Lee Knight Posted September 12, 2014 Moderators Share Posted September 12, 2014 Join in, won't you? _______________ One of my favorite bits of music. The 3rd movement from Ludwig's 9th. I like the midi readout of the arrangement for visual insight. Rest assured, this is a real orchestra though. Midi style readout is only for visuals. Members Etienne Rambert
I never was much on the British Invasion or the Beach Boys. Bob Crew OTOH, was one Hell of a good producer. Cole Porter was one Hell of a good songwriter. And this is a perfect production AFAIC. Same year as 'Pet Sounds'. And these guys weren't usingthe Wrecking Crew in LA. I don't know who Bob Crew's session players were. But wow - this is agreat record. Bob Crew took two notes and three beats. Then he built the whole orchestration around those two notes and three beats. The back-up vocals on those three beats "never win...never win..." really tug at my old heartstrings. The bells chiming on them make it even more touching. The crescendo/turnaround at the bridge just before those beats, is dramatic and powerful. . Frankie Valli thought this was the most sophisticated record they ever made. I think it's one of the best Pop orchestrations by anyone - anywhere.
