Members Meganulon-X
It's too bad they quit making it. I missed out on it. What equally sucks is that cries for a Supernova III fall upon deaf ears. The SN2 must've not been substantially profitable for Novation to justify continuation or succession. There's always eBay for me, I guess. Not to hijack Numina's thread, but does anyone know about what a Supernova IIR goes for these days?

Members sinew1958
Fine, great synth, ideal for producing analogue style sounds.Arpeggiator of the II is one of the strongest points here, the range of the parameters is huge to create your own ones. Here is also a forum about the IIhttp://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Keyboard+And+MIDI/brand/Novation
Members Mook
Best VA ever. It also felt great. Have you still got your K Station? How much different is the sound of it compared to to he Supernova?
Members relis
Good synth. Has it's own sound. Different from other VAs. Too bright and plastic sounding occasionaly, but that's not it's only characteristic, like some analog purists claim. Good to have that sound arround. It can polish and give some air to the mix. Best pads in VA world.
Members The Keymaster
Well I ve had mine for near on 5 and a half years now and its fanatstic. One of the best purchases Ive ever made.Great palette of sounds, possible to make some monster patches in performance mode and v2.0 with Supersaw, ace! The effects are very useful, really good, although the reverbs are a little grainy at times, everything else is fine.7 effects blocks per part in peformance mode really puts the "big 3" to shame even now.Novation provided it back in 2000,I see no reason why "they" cant provide it today in modern workstations. The 42 band Vocoder works well if tweaked properly and it has great midi controller capabilities for a synth of this nature. The 8 arps in Performance mode as well really show how powerful it is,all have independant clock capability. I too was a little dismayed has to why Novation never produced a Supernova III and I was very disappointed that they never produced the optical/adat output option.I tried to purchase it a while back and got told it was never ever made!!!!! Bastards. Brilliant understated VA though, highly recommended.
Members MuzikB
I thougt it had no edge as was a bit too liquid in the sound. Not my cup of tea but it would be an excellent contrast to a Nord Lead 2/2x. I'd say it was just about the opposite in sound to the Nords.
Members MFenkner
Since it seems unlikely Novation will ever release it again, a soft-synth version would be cool. Since the original synth was digital, they could do a near-perfect recreation in software. Mark

Novation products seem to be less capable in actual synthesis each passing year.

The K is brighter/bightier and not nearly as deep. Other than that very similar.
Members dxdreamer
to my earsxio/Xstation sound fatter and more aggressive than supernova in unison modehowever they cant produce supernovar's silkiness, and the stereo image is also different V-Station is kind of like the K/A station, but somewat lacking some openness on the top frequency
Members XorAxAx
When I had a Xio for a short while, I noticed that the envelope depth was not the greatest. For instance, I was unable to take the filter from fully closed to fully open with an envelope. It seemed to only open halfway at max envelope depth. Also, with the filter close to fully open, some of the upper register sounds seemed more like bandpassed noise than clearly listenable harmonics. Don't know if these apply to the SNII though. Anyone? Bueller?
Members relis
Unison mode on Supernova 2 sucks. Sounds to uncontroled and digital. Fortunatley, there are better ways to fatten the sound. I love that synth. So many ways to manipulate the sound!

One of the best purchases Ive ever made.Great palette of sounds, possible to make some monster patches in performance mode and v2.0 with Supersaw, ace! So are you saying the v2.0 has Supersaws? Or are you talking about detuning the oscillators and then stacking similar patches in performance mode slighty detuned to get the effect of a Supersaw? I have KS-5, so I won't comment. I think possibly the SN2 is more silkier somehow, although I have never used one so my comment means
Members droolmaster0
I think it sounds very good, though somewhat generic when compared to the nords, virii, and waldorfs. The interface is very well designed, though. It was a real joy to program it.

Particularly in software. Having to tweak the amp env to make a snappy lead or bass to compensate for this makes me grouchy.

Members dxdreamer
its not generic, its funny how SOS review and the not so good patches can affect peopleits super smooth that no other synths can produce that kind of smoothnessmany of the factory patches are made for build performnce patch bank so some are not too cool sounding by itselfcheck out the vengence sound patch, their mp3 demo for supernova isn't that catchy, but when you load them into ur nova supernova, it's pretty fat and current for trance v2.0 has SupersawsKS-5 hows the performance patches?too bad that xio/xstation can't stack sounds

Members stikygum
The Performance patches are pretty cool on the KS-5. Most probably a lot different sounding than that of the SN2, with the KS's new osc waveforms. Anything special for the performance mode of the SN2? I didn't think the SN2 had the Supersaw. What is their Supersaw, a Waveform that is actually 7 detuned saw waves in one, like the JP8000? To me, the Novation sound is very distinguishable like the Nord, Virus, and waldorfs. When I hear it in a song, I immediately know it, because I own one. To compare with the sounds of the other VAs, I would say that the Novations have a 'Round' sound to them, not as biting. More pillowy and bubbly. I can getting ripping leads and fx out of it, just not sharp biting like the Nords.
