Members syncretism
I'm sad for Tom Baker, these days, but I guess if you're crazy, you're crazy. This is pretty cool, though - a piece of Chicago broadcasting history that predated my time here {maybe Tony Scharf or Aeon saw it}:
Members Cloacal-X
Dr. Who is like TV that requires use of one's imagination to enjoy, which to me defeats the purpose. I watch TV to destroy the imagining part of by brain, not exercise it.
Members suitandtieguy
being a DW fan of 15 years, i spent the first 13 very very alone in that regard. it's nice to see the resurgence, but also weird to experience the "new fandom" of slashfic and discussions of the size of David Tennant's dick in online forums. also to find out only last year that apparently it's had an historically very gay demographic, which is now supplanted by 20 year old girls pissed off that Firefly was cancelled. and as far as the poster who said it requires imagination to enjoy ... check out the new series: they fixed that part for you. Members Diametro
I was too young to really appreciate it or understand it ... ... but hey, what's to understand about a Dalek? I was a very proud grade-schooler with my floor-length Tom Bakeresque multicoloured scarf. And that theme song. Much, much, much, much, much better than the "Buck Rogers" theme song ... So he went bonkers? Sorry to hear that.
Members BonsoWonderDog
The world's gone mad. Doctor Who (original series) was just a super-fun, b-grade sci-fi escape. Don't you people dare ruin it by turning it intellectual (or non-intellectual), symbolic, gay or otherwise. Can't we have one thing in life that's just non-politically correct FUN !?!?!?!?!?!? /rant
Members orangefunk
also to find out only last year that apparently it's had an historically very gay demographic, Yeah theres a gay site dedicated to Space 1999 somewhere... not sure why sci-fi appears to gay people though... I suppose the 1970s stuff is very kitsch... e.g. Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers et al...

I reserve and exercise the right to consume my media critically and with some expectations of quality, thanks. Similarly, I'll respect your "It's just a show, innit" logic, or at least your right to posit it.
Members Awake77
Man I LOVED Dr.Who when I was a kid. I remember my whole family sat riveted for Dr.Who and Tripods back to back every Sunday on PBS.
Members kuniklo
Dr. Who is like TV that requires use of one's imagination to enjoy, which to me defeats the purpose. I watch TV to destroy the imagining part of by brain, not exercise it. The *old* Dr Who was as much theatre as television. The props and costumes were so amateur that it left a lot more up to the viewer's imagination. Which oddly makes it much more compelling than most of today's high budget effects extravaganzas. Watching Dr. Who on PBS weeknights before bed was a completely formative experience for me and I'm sure has a lot to do with my love of electronic music now. Members syncretism
Anyone who rates Bjork crazier than David Icke - no matter how kooky the Icelandic siren may be in public - needs to reassess his crazy criteria.

Bjork has been known to randomly attack people in airports and scream incomprehensible nonsense- not only is she eccentric- she is actually a danger to herself and others! can't get crazier than that! Members Diametro
Yeah theres a gay site dedicated to Space 1999 somewhere... not sure why sci-fi appears to gay people though... I suppose the 1970s stuff is very kitsch... e.g. Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers et al... It appeals to the homes, I think, because in space, nobody can hear you scream "FAGGOT!" and then whack you on the head like poor Harvey Firestein with a baseball bat. That's just boring, a waste of time and seething with the wrong kind of issues. However, I don't really think of Doctor Who as gay in any way really, except maybe in a vague British PBS liberal gay kind of way. I mean, where's the glitter ... platform boots ... and screwed-down hairdos???
