New Analog Mono Synth: Leipzig-K

The names of Analogue Solutions synths are usually coming from either old Soviet and Eastern European cities, lakes etc or from the resembling names of the copied originals. Vostok and Semblance come to mind as examples. Filtered Coffee is an exception of course. :) I didn't see Carbon's thread somehow:facepalm:

What a cool-looking little synth. I just read through the manual. It is pretty much all hard-wired internally but set up very logically. It looks sorta like a hardwired version of their Red Square modular with performance controls and a keyboard. The MIDI implementation is simple but perfectly utilitarian - enough to drive the unit externally using a sequencer or other controller.

I remember seeing their products on analoghaven but not really researching them. It looks like they have some really nice stuff. Apparently their Vostok model won an Editor's Choice award from Electronic Musician in 2003.

In my thread, which I've brought back from the dead for your edification, I wasn't able to get a single person to post a link to a decent demo. The ones on their site are really awfull in terms of giving an impression of what the keyboard is really like.

FWIW, The Moog LP is very nice sounding indeed - and has proper envelopes: http://www.carbon111.com/moog_lp.html

I'd never sell my LP but I might like the Leipzig anyway...I have some kind of "monosynth fetish". :freak:

The Leipzig sounds amazing, ive tried the rack unit. Its up there with the best.

For reference i put it up against my moog source, memorymoog, ms 20, Lp, and Voyager and its quality is comparable albeit with its own unique character somewhere between a minimoog and an ms20.

Indeed it looks like an alternative to Little Phatty.

@MuzikB: Sorry to hear that P'08 didn't work for you. Not the same thing but I find PolyEvolver the sweetest sounding new analog I have ever come across. Maybe you can trade it for a PEK.

I had a PEK. :D I only really used the digital half of it. The limited polyphony was a big factor in me letting it go. I've been hoping Dave Smith makes a Prophet VS 09 or 10. I only got the sounds I've been after from his instruments by creating Oscillator waveshapes. This gave me direct control over the harmonic content.

I'd pay $2500 - $3000 for a 16 voice, 4 part, new VS synth with a Blofeld like screen so you could create your own OSC waveshapes on the synth itself. No editor needed.

The Blofeld KB is the closest thing right now but I don't believe it allows you to create your own waveshapes.
