Members flat earth
So i finally got rid of my SH-201 last week, and im particularly keen on getting a Nord lead 2/2X, but still dont have the funds to do it. So, was thinking of letting the Virus Indigo go. The Waldorf Q is arguably similar, i can coax similar sounds out of it (and then some) and ive decided to keep the JD800 after long thought. Am i making a foolish decision? Theres something about the Nords VA sound that does it for me (yes saw jexus' post on VSE ) I know my ears should be the deciding factor, but I always value other peoples opinions. Members ElectricPuppy
My advice is you should go with your ears.
Members AfroRouge
Yep. Ears! I guess the only limiting factor is the relative age of the NL2. When Eric was selling his I looked through the manual and was a little underwhelmed by the specs relative to the Blofeld, which is what I ended up getting instead. I feel a little less confident about Clavia's legacy products than I do about Access', which seem better supported overall. But there seems to be something about Nord and Access that is mutually exclusive, from a "taste" perspective. Curious thing.
Members Darkstorm
If your other synth does comprable things for you that Virus does, then trade toward or sell for funds to buy Nord lead 2x new or used is reasonable imo. If you can get the nord lead 2x instead of the 2, cause price new was same and 2x has lots more onboard sounds and memory locations for new voices you create. Members ChristianRock
The only thing I can say is, I can't believe you considered selling the JD800 while keeping the Indigo EARS!!!

Ive grown fond of the JD over time and done alot of maintenance and repairs in her. But realistically, the Virus is a way more complex synthesizer. If i didnt already have a Q, i dont think i could be with out it. The only other synth i could possibly let go is my D-550. But it has a slight screen issue. I see another repair project appearing before me

Unless the lack of 4 more note of extra polyphony is a deal breaker for you, don't rule out a NL2 with a PCMCIA card for expanded memory. As a matter of fact, I have 2 of them, so I have 297 extra patch slots that the NL2X doesn't (just not all at once, lol) The NL2 alone though is pretty cramped, only 40 slots are user writable.
