Members frogmonkey
Now that I've got my clonewheel situation under control, I am going to stop GASsing and really learn to play an organ. It is a perfect excuse to obsessively acquire records for a while:p Funk. Soul. Reggae. Any recommendations for good recordings? Videos are appreciated too! Members tim gueguen
Chester Thompson IS Funk organ.http://www.keyboardmag.tv -> Lessons -> Learn to Play -> (anything with CT in the lesson name) Just don't confuse him with the drummer of the same name. But if you're going to check out Hammond stuff you really need to check out the various jazz players as well, many of whom tended towards the funky, like Charles Earland and Jack McDuff. I'm sure Suit and Tie Guy will show up here eventually and talk about some of the more obscure ones.
Members llamastorm
/me likes pretty well, but not in those categories per se: Medeski Martin and WoodDeep Purple Haven't really gotten into ELP yet. Need to, I suppose. Most bands I like have Hammonds but those players aren't really the focus. (I particularly like Gov't Mule and Robert Randolph ... a lot)

Members Bandard
OK - here's another - Melvin Seals. He played with Jerry Garcia for a while, and his work was some of the most lyrical I've heard, in terms of hearing hisd "voice" thru that B3. I'm going to google him to see what's up with him. He's alive and well, and touring in northern Ca.

His work on Bishop's "Raisin' Hell: Live!" CD is superlative!
Members XK-S -> 3300
He also mentioned he really wanted to learn to play organ. I thought maybe he only mentioned the styles he knew something about. I didn't think the request was limited to only those mentioned. Otherwise, he might as well ask what drawbar settings he should use and if there are any places on the internet where he can get free keyboard "Tab" of songs. Members Strenge
Medeski from Medeski Martin and Wood is the best player I've ever seen in person (for that style at least). Dude looks like an accountant or something, but he just *tears it up*. Not sure if this is the tune I had in mind to share (left my headphones at home today ) but here's a vid: Apologies for the MMW spam this one is awesome for the clav stuff also:
Members pink floyd cramer
+ 1000 for Jon Medeski (I'm a fanboy). He practically invented a new style. His angry organ sputters and spits fire-breathing, funky psychedelia. Ivan Neville! Can't get much more funky or soulful than that IMO. Good to see Lucky Peterson mentioned, also. He's just plain WICKED. His earlier records have alot more organ solos. Also a big fan of Sam Yahel (Joshua Redman and Elastic).
