Members WRGKMC
How about a great fret file for $28 http://www.metmusic.com/item_detail.aspx?ItemCode=30600 It needs a wooden handel for it but I bought one of these and been using it for about 6 years now. Having a hard time seeing your guitar neck on a dark stage? Some very cool mods to try. Looks like a 2 for one sale too. http://www.guitarnotes.com/links/rgoto.cgi?query=5405&sort=fretboard&title=Fretboard+Lighting+Systems&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fretlord.com%2F&rank=3.0&rnum=1 How bout those crappy push pull pots. I hate those suckey switches. You got to pull the knob up and it looks awful. How about a locking push button operation. Much easier to deal with just tap it on and off. http://www.allparts.com/500K-Push-Push-Audio-Pot-p/EP-0296-000.htm How bout those hard to find model specific parts. Click on the model on the right and scroll. Many exact replacementsarent cheap but you get what you pay for. Restoring a vintage guitar you want to use the real deal to restore its value. http://grguitars.com/notice_5parts%20table.htm
Members cx04332
Here is another: from Harbor Freight. I have very good close vision. I bought one because it was on sale for cheap. It opened up a new world for me. Try it even if you have excellent vision. You will not regret it.
Members katillac
Here is another: from Harbor Freight. Do you remember offhand what the magnification diopter is on that? I have a small desktop magnifier lamp that's 2x with a small additional magnifier within the main one. Still pretty small, though. I bought some 3.5 diopter reading glasses and those work great, but the depth of field sometimes gets to me when I look away. I'd like to get another lighted magnifier if it magnifies enough and the price is right. I like them for soldering, but I use them for much more. Members cx04332
I got mine on eBay for about $15. It's a Gurian and it's all one piece (file and handle all from the same piece of steel). The handle is plastic covered. Cheap, but does the trick very well. Do you remember offhand what the magnification diopter is on that? I threw away the box and paperwork once I saw that it worked. The fluorescent light is the best feature of this device. It provides bright shadow free light to whatever you are working on. I used to work in direct sunlight but this is better.

How is the clamp and mobility on that. Those are the two features that usually kill cheap lamps for me.
Members MahaloVision
I like the fret light thing, especially with the backlight. Almost makes me want to get those DR strings for the bass. I haven't seen the Harbor Freight light, but have a similar circular fluorescent unit on my bench, permanently mounted. Use it all the time. It is adequate for a home shop but would not last long in a production shop. The clamp junction to the light frame is a loose fit and will probably need to be modified in the future. I have seen the original American version of this light. It is built like a tank and very pricey.
