Members Norton666
Im just curious about how everyone mixes down at the end of their session. Are there any other options in Pro Tools for ending up with a mixed down file without Bouncing the file to disk? I guess Im asking if there are any BETTER ways of doing it. And when you do Bounce the file do you convert during / after the bounce? Good , better , tweak hard?? Just getting some ideas of how other folks do it and if I could be doing it a better way. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Phil O'Keefe
All PT mixdowns are real time, regardless of the method you use; that's mainly due to using things like RTAS plugins... You can take a stereo out (analog or digital) and route it to a second recorder of some sort - lots of folks use an Alesis Masterlink or similar product for this. I actually route multiple outs from my PT rig into my Yamaha digital board, and then send the S/PDIF out from that over to a second PC (running Sound Forge) to record my mixes. I also route the analog outputs of my board over to my Otari half track analog deck for analog mixdowns too.
Members The Nick
At the studio here, we run PT out into fader 1 of the API Vision, through outboard analog gear, and back in to a stereo track in PT via the stereo booster outs of the board. Members Joe Gilder
You can also record everything down to a stereo track. This is nice, because you can make volume changes on the fly, and you can stop the bounce, make an adjustment, and resume the bounce from where you left off. (This is obviously not how you want to do a final mix, but when you're just wanting to do a rough mix for a client, this is GREAT.) Here's a video on how to do it: http://www.homestudiocorner.com/2009/06/30/video-record-to-disk-an-alternative-to-bounce-to-disk/
