Members FitchFY
I'm sure most of us would love to see Led Zeppelin again, even though Bonzo is no longer with us. With all the reunion tours coming along, it can't hurt to fantasize about a world tour... but who would you put on the drums? I've had a few pop into my head... and hey, this doesn't need to be realistic! Dave Grohl - He hits nice and hard, he's got such an incredibly ear of groove... Jerry Gaskill - Another king of groove, and his subtelty with ghost notes often goes unnoticed... Mike Mangini - He's got such monster technique and chops, but he drives his sticks in and a very similar way as Bonham did... Other ideas?
Members mraia
Fitch, I read something a few weeks back that they were going out with Bonzo's boy. Has anyone heard this?? As for your question, Grohl is a perfect fit. BUT, let me throw something out at you.I KNOW I'm gonna get crucified for this, but maybe not.... assuming both you and I turn the job down:rolleyes:how about... wait for it... Phil Rudd Think about it. Hes got the chops, the monster sound, the groove. He might be one of the better choices. I know some of the younger guys here might not agree, but some of you more experienced guys might see where Im going with this. I mean, I would hope its not a guy like Bozzio or Lange, good as they are. They wouldnt be a good fit. Great question, by the way:thu:
Members BroadST
I heard it would be Jason as well, Mraia. I haven't heard a ton from him but I would not be opposed to it.
Members marko46
Jason isn't his father, but he has his influences and he can hold his own. Plus, it would be like playin' with your favorite uncles. I agree that a lot of todays drummers wouldn't fit it, so IMO it would need to be "old school". Possibly Joey Kramer- not exactly JB, but would know the grooves.Albert Bouchard- Original B.O.C. drummer Ian Paice- Deep Purple Off the top of my head. Members manoeuver
I like Rudd in the Zep chair better than the other guys Fitch mentioned. I just can't make a suggestion.
Members mraia
I have heard him play a number of times and hes a good fit. I wonder if it will happen. Im into it as long as Page and Plant dont exclude JPJ as they have in the past. I found that disappointing and a little shabby.
Members BroadST
I've never been a Phil Rudd fan so I can't say I'd choose him. Maybe Tommy Aldridge, Cozy Powell or even Carmine Appice.

Great choices, though it would be a little tough for Cozy since hes gone to that great Guitar Center in the sky. But Carmine is a natural, probably a better fit than Rudd. What about Danny Carey? I dig him completely. He would definitely add a new dimension to the Mighty Led Zep. Again, thats only if I turn down the job:D

You know, the more I think on it, the more sense it makes. I do like Carmine, but theres something about Rudd. IF you can picture Bonzo playing on Back in Black, it might sound an awful lot like Rudd. One more for the wish list: Keith Moon. Back from the dead of course, but think what Kashmir would sound like, or The Ocean!!! Interesting, you think??
Members boomboomdrums
After me, I'd say Kenny Aranoff. I've always considered him to be very Bonhamesque. Heavy sound without a bunch of extra crap thrown in. I think he's got the chops for it too.
Members FitchFY
Carmine Appice!!! What a great idea that is! I could see Phil Rudd laying it down, too - nice idea, Mraia! I really can't picture Danny Carey doing that, but I've only heard his playing in Tool, so who's to say he's not a big groove guy with tons of ghost notes at heart? Marko... were you saying Jason Bonham isn't John Bonham's son? You sure about that one, amigo? Seems to me like he certainly is, based upon countless interviews, statements, TV shows, behind the musics... you sure?

Members mraia
If you're adding a new dimension, I wanna hear Matt Cameron in there. Ok, heres where I get slapped down. Whats the big deal about Matt Cameron?? I know he can play, but I have never seen all that much from him that overly impresses. Same thing with Brad Wilk, who I know a lot of you guys like. What am I missing with these two? Is it the groove? Taste? Chops?

Guy applies chops in strange ways. As for Wilk, His heavy groove helped wean me off prog in the mid 90s. For that I'm grateful, but the stuff I've heard of his on record isn't quite groundbreaking. I know he's his son. Dad's just a hard act to follow. I was at work slammin' the keys when I posyed. Sorry. But I do like Jason's drumming. He was in a band back in the early 90's that sounded an awfull lot like Led Zep. As soon as I heard it I thought of John. And I have to agree with Carmine Appice. I forgot about him. Good choice

I see what your saying. At first he comes across (to me anyway) as a little pedestrian. But there IS some {censored} going on there. He wouldnt be my first choice, but hes not a bad one. Members Carminemw
I think Slappy hit a good one with Calaiuta. You gotta have a guy who can cop a style...he can...you gotta have someone who smack the crap out of them and still have the finesse for all those ghost notes...he's very tasty and a powerhouse player. You also gotta have somebody who can sync impecably with John Paul Jones. Vinnie can feel anybody...and be able to take it to the next level. I would wonder about his ego slashing with Plant and Page, but again I think he can hold his own. By the way, I was the one who posted the info on "Mothership" the new albm coming in November, and the article did include info about Jason going out with the blokes. Search for Mothership and you'll find the link for the article. Better yet, why don't I do it for you... http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003617745
