Members zarazabas
rotate your high hat legs counter clockwise if you can - that will create more room for your slave pedal and let you put it right next to your high hat pedal. Members IggyBot
Yea, definatly rotate your hi-hat legs, it'll make you more comfortable. I bought a 2 leg'd hi-hat stand, and it defiantly feels a lot better with my double pedal than my 3 leg'd stand did. Also, what exactly feels wierd about your toms and stuff? Members 1001gear
I fixed the hi hat pedal thanks to you guys thanks a ton! Well about the toms everyone on the pearl forum told me I should make them closer cause I have them to far apart and ever since it hasnt felt right no matter how comfortable it was prior A common mistake is thinking that getting around drums should require no motion nevermind effort. When I got my first 5 piece, I placed the toms off to each side - like saddle bags. Sound familiar? Comfort is important. As long as you aren't trying to zip around with no chops, reaching for stuff with good extension is a very good low impact workout. And besides cramping stuff together will actually eliminate important muscular development. If you need to be methodical, measure various stages of your reach, and setup/sit accordingly. All this will evolve naturally anyway as things start to gel for you.
Members bodinski
PDP markets a cheap but solid 2-leg stand (HH820) that makes double pedal placement much easier. I had one on my old setup & was able to comfortably place my slave pedal to either the inside or outside of the hats. Worked great.Best - Bodinski
Members Wellhungarian
Sit down on your throne and notice where your feet land naturally. Adjust your pedals there. It's looks to me from the overhead view that your double bass pedals are to close to your snare and you'll be rubbing the inside of your thighs raw playing that way. Then buy a hi hat stand that you can pivot the legs and you'll be more comfortable. By the way, November's issue of Modern Drummer has a whole section on drumset setup. Members rayboomboom
This months issue of Modern Drummer magazine devoted about half the mag to setting up your kit. Check it out. It's 100% ergonomics. Set the kit up to your body. Start with the throne, kick pedals, and hh stand. Add the snare and setup the toms and cymbals so you move with as little motion as possible, conserving energy to play. Bob Gantzen and Billy Ward both have great articles in that issue about setting up. I know when I set up my double pedal the first time it was a real eye opener as to how I sit and play. Having to move the hh stand took some time to get used to.
Members coyote-1
My hihat is a fair distance away now that I'm using two bass drums. Many drummers clamp it right next to the BD pedal. That gets in the way of everything else for me.... lots of drummers would argue that since it's one of the most important elements of a set, it ought be as close as possible. I've simply practiced, and gotten used to the location. Having to move the hh stand took some time to get used to.
