I just bought this and watched for the first time, very cool.I know we all talk about neil peart this and neil peart that but if you have seen this it's awsome.I really like when the drummers go in depth about there influnces and styles. My wife even sat down and watched it,I really liked the Jo Jo Mayer dvd as well. Also watched the Benny Goodman story and the Gene Krupa story.I love classic rock stuff but the big band stuff is really fun to play.:thu:

I caught the tail end of the Benny Goodman story, and the start of the Gene Krupa...recorded Krupa.

Between the two the Benny Goodman story is a better one in terms of movies, but, they both have GREAT music.

To the point where I start thinking...if I get some horn players, some sax players...maybe I can do some of that stuff!!!

I played a number of those tunes back in school with the Jazz Band - my favorite being Sing, Sing, Sing...

Too bad TNTC only played it once - I would have recorded it!

I've seen excepts of it, and it produced no desire in me to see the whole thing. I can watch a musician talking if it's straight instruction that's offered, but when they're talking about themselves and their work, I get annoyed with it in fairly short order. I'm much better off never seeing that side, and just enjoying their playing, if applicable.

Have you ever seen any of Portnoy's DVD's? Anyone who thinks his playing is profusely pretentious should listen to him talk for about 3 minutes. Suddenly his playing takes on a more conservative color.

So, did you get a free pair of shoes to sample?

p.s. I do appreciate how you handle advertising for him, you should be on his pay role.
