See it's the same shell as a Black Beauty, but you can get a BB w/ tube lugs...so is the only difference that it comes w/ diecast hoops standard?

these are made in taiwan. and they're probably not a seamless shell like the us made counterparts. hence, they are less expensive

Ludwig rep says no seamless shell on these. They are about the same drum as the Pork Pie/Worldmax Black brass drums.

that's what i figured. ludwig is just jumping on the bandwagon with all those other company's that copied the original bb, lol

guess i can't blame em though

Oh! Well, that settles it then, must sound like {censored}.

I'm sure it doesn't, however it probably doesn't sound $100-200 better than the other brands' versions of the same drum. I'm sure you agree it would be stupid to pay that much more just for the Ludwig badge (which is redesigned for these drums and a bit odd looking anyway -- someone said fugly) when you could get the same sound out of an Ahead, a Pork Pie, a Worldmax, etc...

Well loss, I don't believe I said or implied in my post that the Ludwig was worth $100-200 more than the other snares you mention, for its badge or any other reason. But thanks for playing!

What I was poking a bit of fun at was the notion that a seamed shell took it out of contention: "not so yummy."

Sorry, I thought my actual point was fairly obvious.

I'd love to hear two snares, one with a seamless shell, and another identical in every particular except with a seamed shell. I'd have to wonder if anyone could tell the difference.

I don't care much about things like seamless shells, because there's no particular reason why that would be superior in a drum; my question is: "How's it sound?"

I knew that.

Good grief -- there's no way I was that much of a prick when I responded to YOUR post. All I did was make a neutral comment. So go get back in the bed you woke up on the wrong side of...

My ONLY point (nothing against YOU buddy) is that if you want something to sound EXACTLY like a Black Beauty, it's likely that your only option is to actually buy a BB. Sure, these Black Magic drums (and several other options) have the same flavor to them, so for some they are the right drum. I used to have a brass Sensitone that was a great drum in its own right, and had the brass flavor, but it didn't sound the same as a BB.

It's an opinion, take it or leave it but don't shove yours in my face.
