I have nothing against their right to PRIVACY.....now, if what they are trying to do is LEGITIMIZE this activity and make it "illegal" for me to disagree with this lifestyle (which is what they are trying to do...) so that I cannot publically object or be thrown in jail...THEN, I believe this is nothing more than ol' fashion reverse McCarthyism...FORCING me to agree or else! this is NOT American! I do Not FORCE my worldview down any one's throat, I don't try to LEGISLATE my lifestyle so that others cannot disagree with me or be thrown in jail. But your views and lifestyle aren't being repressed by a religious group, are they? Letting gays marry isn't forcing you to do anything, you're getting your panties in a wad by your own choice. There are more important things to worry about in life, making an issue out of gay marriage is just political smokescreen.

Honestly, heated or not I'm grateful that we can still all argue like this openly and no-one will be knocking on the door. Well...they may tap our phones but hey...national security and all... I'm a lot more pissed off that once again politicians who have been majorly {censored}ing up the basic needs of the people ie. health care, job security, decent wages, education, reasonable insurance, disaster management etc. are using emotional but personal individual choices as political attention getting and button pushing. Gay marriage, religous teachings, birth control, abortion are all examples of personal choices that are better argued between private people and organizations, not to be legislated for all. I'm an athiest but I do not begrudge anyone's personal choice of a belief system. Even though I hate it and want to be left the {censored} alone I understand the Christian doctrine of wanting to reach me per se. When my supposedly free, democratic Govt. is trying to do just that through legislation that panders to a religous belief system that does not represent all then I'm ready to become a militant athiest and practice a little pre-emption of my own. Live and let live is a truly powerful idea. If only people weren't so insecure as to not be able to do so. P.S If you think all that's gone in the name of fighting terror isn't really about developing means of controlling the domestic population, you need to seriously think about it. Very well said. There are much more important things a "patriot" should be upset over than someone burning a cloth.
  3. Originally posted by telephant Its people like this that are sending our civilization back a 1000 years. And if the first post in this thread is any indication, its seems that is in fact their goal. And let's think back to what western society was 1000 years ago...... Most of Europe was basically the same as an Islamic fundamentalist state, but Christianity was in power. That's not a world I want to live in.
  4. Originally posted by charliedango A society can't be judged by a few of it's members, if it were, then the US would be no better than any other nation on this planet. I would equate head-removing insurgents with G.I.'s who mow down innocent civilians for whatever reason. There are those who do the right thing, those that do the wrong thing and those that are simply following orders and believe they aren't responsible for their own actions. What makes the situation nasty is that what is "the right thing" and "the wrong thing" are both relative. The terrorists honestly belive they are doing God's work, just as the Christains belived they were doing God's work by exterminating untold amounts of "heretics" all throughout the middle ages.
  5. Originally posted by guitar shmoe should society legislate morality?...if so? who's morality? Biblical?...majority consensus? left-wing? right-wing?...at some point someone is going to disagree...is there an OBJECTIVE authority that we can appeal to? and a message to the left-wing cry babies: I wonder if it were YOU with a dull knife at YOUR neck, in the hands of a raving lunatic radical muslum whack-job, if it were YOU! I wonder if the last thing going through your mind, as he slices your throat and cuts your head off, would be: "this is wrong! someone should do something to stop these people from subjugating and murdering innocent folks"......you'd be loving your liberators then wouldn't you! trying to equate our liberating troops with these murderous wackos is not accurate. if being a liberal means you can't see the difference...then I'm definitely NOT a liberal. Do you know what the purpose of terrorism is? It is to incite fear in the general public, allowing the said group to get what they want. Who benefits (uses the fear do do whatever they want) from modern terrorism in the US? Our own government, and people like you simply make their power (public fear) grow. Besides that, your sob decapitation story has NOTHING to do with this discussion, you are using this horse{censored} to try and gain leverage, probably a trick you've learned from watching O"Reily and Hannity. Also, it's funny that you don't realize how close modern Christianity and Islam are. If you honestly want to prevent the US from becoming more like an Islamic state, then stop trying to push your christian morals on everyone.
  6. Originally posted by Ultrahighgain There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. That's great, use a verse from the bible to "prove" that people need it.
  7. Originally posted by guitar shmoe and yet, how ironic that you, sir, fit squarely in the middle of my description of an angry, disrespectful leftist... This thread proves one thing: You cannot legislate morality and you cannot FORCE someone to be respectful of flags or even other's opinions. It's like forcing someone to 'love' you....the action defeats the purpose. That was not the issue behind this thread.
  8. Originally posted by guitar shmoe My friend, you have stepped into the land of "mega left-wing jack-ass, God hating, Death Metal loving, angry, immature, narcissistic, sadistic, disrespectful, foolish lost donkeys"......you will have better luck as a Jew asking Hitler for mercy or selling ice cubes to Eskimoes etc....you will find no love here...or not much anyways...let me put my helmet on cause here comes a load of donkey dung from the crowd that I just described in the quotation marks... (Updated list...) You just summed one of my favorite quotes: "What are the fruits of christianity? Bigotry, superstition, and persecution." -James Madison

  11. Originally posted by rememberduane  I'm glad the constitution is less important than ridiculous bigoted/pseudochristian principles. Just ask most of the tools at Fox News, they'll be sure to tell you that (with a side of "Be afraid of terrorists, let the government do whatever they want to "protect" you!").
  12. Originally posted by favata5 Could someone please explain to me why legislation couldnt get passed to ban flag burning but its ok in some states for Homosexuals to be married and in most schools children cant say God?? What the hell has happened?? Makes me wish I could turn the clocks back to the ol fashioned times..you know when God mattered, and men worked while the women stayed home and took care of the domestic jazz, and children had a monny and a daddy! Today its just getting twisted it used to be Adam and Eve in the Bible,,whats next Adam and Steve???? Wow, what an original set of personal convictions. I can tell you've worked hard at expanding your own insight on life, you can definitely view things from multiple perspectives.
