  1. And yes, I did indeed spend my 21st buying vinyl and sitting in a pub alone. And it was great.
  2. Someone always has to get leary. Back on topic, scored these for my 21st birthday for less than a tenner each. Well pleased.
  3. Oh, and as a point of curiosity/consumer advice, I don't actually own a record player. Anyone recommend a reasonable system to play them on? Would quite like a stand-alone unit since all my cassettes are rubbish and a CD player would be redundant.
  4. My collection isn't huge, but it's basically just bands I like from that era.(60s-90s). Got a few valuable ones that I picked up purely by chance on markets and local shops. And recently I came into a plethora of vinyl since my grandfather passed. Took out everything I liked (War of the Worlds, some Beatles 7" and a load of Shadows) and sold the rest. Collection consists mainly of Alice Cooper, Rush, Ozzy, Scorpions, Floyd, Maiden, Dio/Rainbow and a bit of Saxon. Plus a few other one offs like Skid Row.
  5. You mean John Waters? Okay, I really want to see it now! Does he make Tom Cruise eat some dog {censored}? I thought it was Adam Shankman? Honestly, I'm just checking IMDb since I recall seeing "From the director of Hairspray" on an ad plastered on a bus I got stuck behind on the motorway. EDIT: Just looked up John Waters. He wrote the screenplay for Hairspray, but didn't direct. I think Justin Theroux and some other guys wrote Rock of Ages.
  6. Allow me to reiterate: "From the director of HAIRSPRAY"
  7. When debating whether or not to see this movie, "From the director of Hairspray" gave me a vital clue... I have not seen it. I will not see it.
  8. The guitars have been recovered http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_20416755/police-recover-tom-petty-stolen-guitars Awesome! All is well with the world again Thanks for keeping us updated!
  9. Yeah...if frankthomson was the 'leader' of this new world...and then, of course, he'd settle it all *old school*. Like how does *old school* work? Do you paste wanted signs up in all of the villages? Do you get a good horse and go search for the thieves while wearing a six-shooter and a set of chaps with a big hat? Do you tell the sherriff? Good think frank said "i like to show u kids how stupid u look". I was really hoping he'd go for the dyslexia excuse Besides, violence would be counter-productive. In this case, it'd show a flaw in perception of the situation, like it usually does. Smashing that which has slighted you is the most simplistic and barbaric course of action. We're highly evolved and/or intelligently created beings, after all. We can solve things better than that.
  10. and i *want* a million $$$$ ur point? You didn't have a million dollars -that you earned- stolen from you.
  11. i didnt say it was right. i think the reward thing was tacky....awwww poor millionaire got ripped off lets all pity the poor MULTI-millionaire did someone steal his mansion and lear jet too? So basically, they're not allowed to want their guitars back?
  12. On a semi-related note, does anyone know where I might get my hands on the Storytellers TV thing? I have the album, but I'd quite like to watch it if it exists as a video. Tom's commentary is as interesting as it is amusing.
  13. So what exactly IS your point, if you have one? That if someone is successful, it's okay to steal their {censored}? That's a moronic position to take. He's just being a contrarian. It's quite childish, really. In his mind, he's saying "don't cry over spilled milk"; trying to make the point that Tom can go out and buy more. His superiority complex tells him that to acknowledge a sentimental attachment to an inanimate object is stupid, which of course, it isn't. For example: my most sentimental guitar is my first, given to me by my dad from his own personal collection. I can't express the sense of elation and pride I felt when I finished restoring it a few months ago. I'd never consider selling it, and if anything were to happen to it I would be devastated. If I may take a cheap shot at Frank... Learn to use a {censored}ing keyboard. There's no excuse for illiteracy in the first-world. If you're from my generation, then you're reaffirming the stereotype that we're apathetic, lazy wasters. If you're older... Then that's just terrible.
  14. Oh, and it was a Broadcaster, not a Nocaster.
  15. u cant take em with u, bra. I can damn well try
  16. +1 The only thing that makes sense. Flush them out, clobber them. I think I'd pay $7,500 to watch Tom Petty and his boys beat someone to death
  17. What tools. I'm sure this guys were having their "Last Dance With Mary Jane", when they thought of this. We all know that it's never the last dance... Even The Losers Weak song reference, I know. But I'm finding them supremely amusing
  18. Reward $ is kinda low. I bet he spends that on room service. I clicked on "like" I'm wondering if the low reward (in light of what the guitars are worth) is some kind of ploy. Y'know, to make the thieves think that the guitars are worth about that much. As a lot of people have said, trying to flip a Broadcaster could be pretty difficult, so who knows. Either the thieves get duped into giving the guitars back for much less than they might have gotten for them, or they realise how difficult it'd be to sell such a valuable (and in some cases, rare) collection and go for the easy money.
  19. $7500 reward?!?! hell I should have stolen them and just returned 'em for the reward then I could have gone out and bought any one of those guitars... I would probably keep hold of the Broadcaster... Don't care what it's worth, I'd totally play that thing
  20. So are you saying that because he's successful he deserves to have his {censored} stolen? He paid his dues a long time ago and those guitars have more value than just money. There's a lot of sentimental value there as well. Stow your cheap shot, wannabe, holier-than-thou because I haven't had a decades long successful career BS. Its not like you're talking about someone whose daddy gave them all his {censored}. +1 Tom's still a human being. I have a couple guitars that I consider to be irreplaceable due to their sentimental value. Tom and his band have as much right as anyone to feel slighted, regardless of their wealth and success.
  21. I never mentioned a nondescript flophouse in Devonshire... Please, sir. Have some respect. We call them "Council estates"
  22. Going to see those guys on Thursday. Bummer about the stolen guitars. But, seriously, where can you fence a Broadcaster without being noticed? That was my first thought... I suppose that it'll either get sold at a modest price as neither the thief nor the buyer know what a Broadcaster is, or the thief does know and he'll sit on it for a while. But then, stealing from a famous musician just seems so counter-intuitive unless one plans on claiming any potential reward. Which isn't guaranteed, of course. Also, I'm enjoying the song references
  23. Who told you they were here?! Yeah, I'm really glad they got the serials. I mean, that Broadcaster must be worth a fortune!
  24. Much better information here: http://www.tompetty.com/news/title/guitars-stolen-from-tour-rehearsal Thanks, dude. Admittedly, I didn't do any research into the matter More information is always good.
  25. I hope once they are caught, Tom and the Heartbreakers "wreck them". Werd. I'm really hoping that "$7,500 reward" is a euphemism for "Have your thieving face smashed in"
