  1. Just read this on my Facebook newsfeed. Bummer! http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150679212095905.390370.19703580904&type=1
  2. The last two I found, were old IBM keyboards I picked up in a flea market. Haven't found any more since. I image these will be more expensive now than a membrane board but I'm willing to buy one or two if the price isn't too outrageous. I seem to remember one of my tech-geek friends telling me a particular IBM model sold for close to
  3. Oh man I'd love one of those! All you can find now are membrane keyboards. I loved typing and feeling the mechanical "CLICK" under my finger tips. I typed a lot faster on those too. Ah, I know exactly what you mean. The Logitech G510 is reasonably clickety-clackety, but it's still membrane Ain't nothing sexier than a mechanical keyboard... So satisfying to type on. But one of those IBM keyboards actually sells for more than what I have!
  4. Can't say I've ever lost faith, but there have been times where I needed a break. The guitar is a huge part of who I am and who I aspire to be, so it would be hard to fill that void if I were to give it up. During my "off-periods", I've tried my hand at other things that are music related. Last year when things were a little tough, I bought a cheap piano-synth and taught myself to play it. I also acquired a free bass, which gives me a lot of enjoyment. More recently, some of my friends have become interested in learning the guitar themselves. I've become something of a guitar teacher, so it's actually given me a lot of motivation to play more and come up with fun little exercises for them to practice. They're now at a level that allows us to jam reasonably coherently, and it's great fun.
  5. I think the forum needs a break from that for a while. I'd hate for someone to literally do this: Lemme change from this: to this: and we're good to go
  6. What kind of bridge is it? Hard tail, Tune-O, Floyd, Strat... If it's a tremolo bridge, it might be that it needs setting up again.
  7. Sounds logical due to distance and expenses. Besides, the Spaniards have been building them for longer anyway. Call me strange, but it's a personal preference. I'd rather go to Mexico than Spain because to me, I think it'd be more interesting
  8. ROFL. Sky, my wife is mexican and an amazing guitarist, contact me if you need any help or translation etc. Thanks for the offer, man! Much appreciated There's no need. My spanish isn't awful, but Google Chrome automatically translates pages. I feel so lazy in doing so, but it's so easy
  9. That would work out to $17,000 US. Besides, that $220k guitar isn't made in Mexico. A Mexican hand made guitar is on that page. http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-78711851-guitarra-clasica-de-concierto-_JM It's $32,000, which is about $2500 US Dollars. There's a town here called Paracho, about a three hour drive from my home. It's a well known and traditional town where hand crafted guitars are made. It's a cool place to visit, especially around June, when the rainy season has started. That's cool. I'm considering a trip to Mexico. I'm interested in the hand-built acoustics, and maybe getting a lesson in the crafting. Just to absorb the culture. A build course over here costs
  10. I live down here. That site is the local "Ebay". Believe me, you wont be getting no good guitar for $550 pesos. Here they are in descending price. To find the cost in US dollars, just divide the price by 13. http://listado.mercadolibre.com.mx/guitarras-acusticas/_OrderId_PRICE*DESC You can however find some very nice classical, hand build guitars down here but not for $40. Sorry, I put that link for the 550 peso price range. They go up to like 220,000? I thought it was in dollars Even so, what's 220,000 pesos in US dollars? If the shipping isn't ridiculous, I may get one of the more expensive ones now that I'm thinking straight.
  11. He shared this site with me! http://listado.mercadolibre.com.mx/guitarras-acusticas/guitarras-acusticas_OrderId_PRICE*DESC_PriceRange_0-550 Essentially, they're just nice acoustic guitars. So I figured I should share with you guys. His English wasn't perfect, but I think he said that some of them were hand-made.
  12. God damn it! I like the Pixies even more now than I did then, because we need them more than we needed them back then. What we need is whoever the young morons of today get that old dipshits like me don't get, who will be the next[ Pixies. Because when my antique ass can listen to that song and think, "I haven't head a song that good in 20 years", rock and roll is in a sad, sad state. For the most part, I'd agree. Luckily, there's still a few good classics continuing to release new albums and perform new shows. Just last year, I saw Alice Cooper in Bristol. First time seeing him since Wembley Arena in '07. It was absolutely fantastic. Just after that, saw Def Leppard co-headline with Motley Crue, which was awesome. The main support was Steel Panther, which was less awesome. For rock and roll these days, the good stuff is coming mostly from Sweden in the form of Crashdiet, who moved from a pretty Motley Crue style to their own brand of melodic hard rock in just three albums. Even had Mick Mars doing guitars, writing and production on the second album. Crazy Lixx are much the same, except for two albums now they've kept that Crue sound going. They're okay, but of the two... Crashdiet seem more focussed and unique.
  13. I'm almost 40 and all of those artists except for Sleigh Bells are ancient history to me. By the way, Iron Maiden are still writing new albums :poke:
  14. and Dethklok? :poke: Yeah, I listen to a whole bunch of other stuff, its just that these are the ones that this forum has turned me onto- hence why most of them are ancient I forgot to agree that Dethklok are both awesome and hilarious. Metalocalypse is fantastic
  15. This forums does seem to be dominated by old guys who are very set in their way and who seem to think that any music that isnt more than 30 years old is automatically crap. ^ I'll use this to try and bridge the gap. Thanks, Spike! I'd be inclined to agree with him there, a lot of older folk are very much inclined to be set in their ways. And I suppose they have the right to be. They were there at the birth of the progenitor of what a lot of us younger folk listen to today. But from someone that is in love with classic rock and blues as well as modern metal and hard rock, it's not all shit. I'm not saying that you have to listen to it and have to like it, but you can't make the assumption that it's bad based on a very brief glimpse of what's currently out there. I'm sure that if you gave it a little patience, you'd find something you like from my world
  16. It's not so much that I'm receptive to the notion of anybody telling me what to think or what taste to have...and certainly nobody's going to talk me out of liking what I like. Yes, I do love the "classic rock canon," and I love in a campier way all the 80's stuff I grew up with, that's not going to change. But for all the clash of culture and the extremes on both ends , this is still a more musically diverse, and more seriously musical, group than I interact with normally. Maybe people that serious about music have already thought through all that and have had the reactionary vs. modernity and other arguments already and have settled into their approaches, on whatever end of the spectrum. Being a musical doofus, I kind of like getting exposed to a few "new to me" things...some Prince or some Sabbath or Jack White (maybe) or some of the country or jazz guys that come up. All depends on where you start I guess. Oh f'sure. But nobody here has posted anything that either a) I wasn't already aware of or b) really struck me as an awesome piece. Sure, a few of them have been good pieces, but none worthy of an automatic download of their entire discography (I know, I'm a terrible person... But I still buy albums if they're really good) I did come across as a bit of a dick, now that I re-read my statements. And I do apologise, it wasn't my intention to appear to be saying that anyone that has had their musical tastes changed here is a person incapable of making their own decisions.
  17. Not especially. There have been a few things posted that I've gone and listened to, thought were pretty cool and not really listened to again. And I won't base my own tastes on what a bunch of people on the internet think, nor will I change my tastes based on what a bunch of people on the internet say about them. I like what I like, and that won't change
  18. Well since the old thread has disappeared, I took the liberty of creating a new one. Just post pics of your Jacksons/Charvels; and you can use this in your Sig: Member of the NEW Jackson/Charvel Army I'll start by posting my RR3: And almost the full Rig Ohhh... That's a tasty RR3. How do they play? I've wanted one since I saw one. Could just never get over the
