Your post implied (strongly) that the chassis material made the difference though. I don't blame you for making an assumption based on that either since there's been so much bad information posted on teh Intarweb about amp design/construction. However I wanted you to be aware that this is how this sort of thing is perpetuated, by people making assumptions and posting about them. Originally posted by maz_master And, what were the results of your test, James? For my designs, there's no discernable difference whether I use aluminum or steel for my chassis. I was relieved to discover this, since I'd used both types of material and had to decide on what to use for a new chassis. My options were open at that point.
  2. Originally posted by NITEFLY182 I would, the effects loop on my VH4 is much nopiser than my dual rec Are you implying that the steel chassis of the VH4 is somehow allowing more noise to pass through than the steel chassis of the Dual Rectifier? Anyway, you should read up on the technical properties of aluminum and steel, and know what it means in the context of an amplifier (taking into account the specific layout of the amp) before you rush to judge an amp based on the material its chassis is made of. Don't be like so many others who would presume one metal is inherently superior in all cases. I've used both, and I've even done direct comparisons using the same circuit design in each.
  3. Originally posted by Duesentrieb Steel is much more flexible than aluminum (or german aluminium). Alu shields a bit better than steel though. Although nobody would rate a Diezel "noisy" . Aluminum and steel shield different things differently. I don't mind using either for chassis material, as long as either is made well.

The Herbert is a great amp. I won't argue preference, but it's one of the best high gain amps I've ever heard.
  8. It's no Dual Rectifier; they're very different sounding. It may have as much gain/distortion on tap, but comparing to a Dual Rectifier doesn't make much sense.

  10. Originally posted by Megadeth7684 I don't think so. Oh please. What the hell do you know.
  11. Fine, I lose again! Tarnation! Next time, if you can, post something with less blblblbllblblblblblblblblb style picking and more chords or something. It's really hard to tell what's going on if the guitarist doesn't stop much.
  12. Originally posted by Randy Van Sykes I thought the first one had too much highs. Easy enough to fix.
  13. Originally posted by sah5150 It's the boards damn tagging mechanism adding unnecessary tags when you save a post. It's driving me crazy!!! Steve Yeah yeah. So what do I win.
  14. Originally posted by JKD All sounded the same to me :-/ Time to visit the hearing doctor? Ignore most of the trem picking stuff, and focus on the stuff which is (sometimes) inbetween it.
  15. Originally posted by sah5150 Awesome! Just the sort of feedback I was looking for! Steve I knew you'd appreciate it. Now that I could actually download the clips... 2 sounds like the boosted 5150 if I'm not mistaken. That would make 1 the Mark IV and 3 the UL, based on my assumptions of how each sound in that particular context. I prefer clip 1. It seems to have smoother "chunk".
  16. If all he can do is reference an old domain name I'm not using which is in the process of being transferred, or quote an old review from a guy who lied about his "experience" with the amp (which was my very first model btw), well what can I do... ...except laugh I guess.
  17. Ah right, quote the one bad review from a guy who lied and exaggerated about the amp and tried to put me out of business, (The other review which was similar was also done by the same guy.) Lots of people here remember that story, but I guess you don't. I must've really hit a sore spot with you for you to keep digging though, didn't I. It's funny...for a guy with so much to be ashamed of, so many things you wouldn't want others to know, you really like pushing your luck.
  18. Originally posted by carlygtr56 Notice: This domain name expired on 04/05/06 and is pending renewal or deletion petersamps.com I know. It's actually reserved for me. The reason it shows up that way is that I don't feel like dealing with the old service provider, so I'm using a third party to keep the domain name. And in case you were wondering, for several months my website had been on petersamplification.com. But I'm sure you knew that, didn't you. Especially when everyone else has been able to find my site, email me and so forth, and I've been hosting all my pictures from there... PS--you can keep digging for insults all you want, Carl. I'm holding back bigtime. You'd be surprised how many people around here aren't exactly fans of yours, and keep dropping "ammo" in my lap...
  19. Originally posted by carlygtr56 Next time you're in NY, let me know. We'll see who's a coward. I 'm pretty good a dwarf-tossing Is that a threat, Carl? Please let it be a threat... BTW, so angry you can't format your posts properly?
  20. Originally posted by carlygtr56 Keep dreaming. Face to face? Your face comes up to my ankle. Go away now Lollypop Kid. I never said I didn't remember meeting you, you liar. I got your attention, moron. I noticed the only fidget in the room....assumed it was you. I was only there with one friend, dreamer, and he didn't know you from any other dwarf in NYC LOL Next fidget tossing on LI, I'll call you. I'm the liar now? ROFL!!! Actually your reading comprehension is slipping--you'd claimed your "friends" didn't remember me, and that's what I just said. And now btw, you're claiming it was just one friend! So which is it Carly? And you know who I was, because I was handing out nametags and I introduced myself to you (as well as most everyone else there). That's when I faced you in front of everyone. Let me guess, I'm getting you so upset by exposing that you're a coward, that you can't even get your own story straight. I'd still bet you never actually tried the Bad Monkey, especially since you're avoiding the issue so much. And while we're at it, I have a couple words for you: Carvin Legacy. Hypocrite. Since you're a fan of characters of the Wizard of Oz, let me don upon you a new moniker--CowardlyCarl.
  21. Originally posted by carlygtr56 You play the 3 pedals I mentioned, Fidget? No Don't need a Bad Monkey with what I got. Par for the course thru your amps though. Junk into junk LOL More insults, wow what a surprise. Too bad you didn't have the courage to say any of them to my face in NYC. And btw, don't tell me your friends don't remember our meeting, because they laughed right at you when I faced you. Coward.
  22. Originally posted by carlygtr56 I think it's a POS cause I put it next to what I own and dismissed it. The Eternity blew it away. The Landgraff blew it away. The MJM Blues Devil blew it away, and a few more , little man. Obtain height So far I see, insult insult insult, ignorance ignorance ignorance insult. Trying to fill your quota early today Carly? BTW, I'd be willing to bet you did not even try the pedal. You always bitch about something "sucking", and then when people realize you've never played the product you complain "the clips sucked". Then later, after being pwned numerous times on this forum, you end up trying it and realizing you were wrong. Then you pretend you never bitched about the product in the first place. This has happened so many times, I can't even remember how many times it's happened by now. And as for height, what's the use of being taller if, by your example, it just makes a person a total liar, hypocrite and coward.
  23. Originally posted by carlygtr56 Fidget, I own 80 pedals...I collect those as well. No Bad Monkey. Why? Because I got better and I think it's a cheap piece of junk...... You think it's a cheap piece of junk because of what you read on the 'net, because of what someone told you, because of sound clips you've heard (the ever-present excuse you use), or the fact that you know it's made in China? Because it's obviously NOT because you've played one. Again, your ignorance is inexcuseable.
