  1. I have an 1997 Ibanez S540 that I'd like to sell or trade for a tele. I bought it in 2006 and it was only gigged once. It has only left my bedroom 3 times. The pickups were all replaced with Dimarzios: A Super Distortion in the bridge, a Blue Velvet in the neck and an Air Norton in the neck. The neck pickup ring is missing two screws and the back plate is missing 4 screws. It is in great condition with a few nicks here and there. I tried to photograph them but they are hard to get a picture of. The floyd on this is awesome, stays in tune no matter what. The neck is a shredders dream, thin and the action is low. It comes with an Ibanez hardshell case. I'll let it go for $530 plus shipping although I'd prefer to do a local deal. I'm in Dutchess NY, 1.5 hours north of NYC. PM me if you want more detailed pics. ONLY TRADES I'M LOOKING FOR IS A TELE AROUND THE SAME PRICE. Let me know what you have
  2. a little help guys? I'm gunna try to buy paint this weekend.
  3. ok. I got all the paint off. The heat gun and scraper worked well. There were a bunch of gouges in the wood, but I sanded it all down smooth with 250 sandpaper. There was a couple of gouges that I filled with wood filler then sanded smooth. The only semi-issue is I can't seem to get the base sealer off the the top and back but it is all off the sides. So, you can see small cracks of the base sealer on the corners where the sides meet the front. I rubbed some wood filler on that as well and it feels pretty smooth now. Should I go over the whole body with finer sandpaper? The finest I have access to at work is 250. I feel like I should lay a coat of primer first before I start my color coats just to account for the uneven base sealer coat. Is the BIN shellac primer good or should I go with another kind? I'm abandoned the natural finish idea and am planning on going with a blue acrylic enamel or lacquer. What are the differences between the two? Lastly, I'm undecided if I should apply a poly finish coat at the end. Thanks for your help guys. I'll post progress pics soon.
  4. This one seems like one piece. I can't find the seem anywhere.
  5. I was planning on doing a natural finish, or at least a see through finish if I can get the sides sanded down nicely and get the front and back sanded evenly. When I'm done stripping the paint I'll decide.
  6. I prefer OK Computer, but not by much. It's really a perfect album. I love The Bends too though, but as a whole album, OK Computer is more complete for me.
  7. The light spots you're seeing is where you sanded thru that Fullerplast sealer coat. Either get it all off or leave it the way it is and go opaque. B.I.N. shellac based primer is your friend. Get it smooth, use a whole rattle can of it, sanding as needed & start with your color. BTW poly finishes end up being thinner that laquer because you need 230,633 coats of laquer to get the protection provided by 2 coats of poly. So, which will have the most effect on tone? I figured it was some kind of sealer but I can't get through the rest. I'll try again this week.
  8. I'll try a heat gun and see what happens. Thanks guys.
  9. Great thread. It'll be very helpful when I get to the step of choosing a paint. Unfortunately I already stripped it to bare wood on the front and back.
  10. I didn't mean belt. It's an orbital sander. There's no flex in it so I cant get it flat to get the grooves.
  11. I have a Laney 4x12 I'd like to get rid of as I just sold my Laney GH100L head and I have no use for this cab anymore (band broke up). It's the matching cabinet to the Laney GH100L and has HH Invaders speakers. The cab is beat up and has tears in the tolex in the back. The previous owner drilled holes in the bottom for casters but did a sloppy job. I used it for my beater band practice cab and also used it as a second cab for gigs. The jack plate was broken when I got it and Laney apparently doesn't make a replacement jack for this cab anymore so I bought a marshall jack plate and wired it up just like my Marshall 1960a cab. 4 or 16 ohm mono and 8 ohm stereo. There is a stain on the front grill cloth from someone spilling a little beer on it. I will do my best to scrub and clean it. Looking for $190 and am looking for a local deal within 1 hour of Dutchess county NY. There are different speakers in the cab now so if you're serious and want pics of the inside, PM me and I'll put in the Invaders and take some pictures. Kevin. Still available. Offer?
  12. Hey guys. I ran out of free time so the guitar is still as it is in the picture. I'm ready to sand down the sides but how? The orbital belt sander won't lay flat so it will gouge the wood. Hand sanding takes forever, like 5 minutes to get a tiny spot down to wood. Also, I still can't get rid of the light spots shown in the pics. Is there a better way to strip paint? Thanks.
  13. I hope this will help you out with your project. I used acrylic enamel from rattle cans on the last body I painted and it turned out very well, only taking two cans of paint. It was a Strat in Shoreline Gold I painted baby blue. I sanded the Fender three piece body down to bare wood, eliminating all of the original topcoat, color coats and sealer. Once those were gone, I sanded with progressively finer grades of sandpaper until the wood was silky smooth. Just before applying the first coats of paint, the body was wiped down carefully with an alcohol soaked rag to get rid of any grease, hand oils or other contaminants before spraying paint. Since the paint coat I was going to apply is extremely thin, the wood had to be perfectly smooth or else any imperfection would show through. Even though I had sanded the body very smooth, the first few coats soaked into the wood a bit (not too much) and acted as its own sealer. I applied extremely thin coats and slowly built up the color. After every 4 or 5 coats, I
  14. Thanks a lot guys. Anyone have a tutorial or something that will take me step by step through painting or polying a guitar?
  15. What are the benefits of nitro? How many coats of stain and poly? I'd like to find a blue or green stain.
  16. I use poly all the time at work. I have access to stain and poly if I chose to go that route. If I can get the wood nice and even I may go that route.
  17. No clue what paint I should use. At work there's a garage with a big exhaust fan I could use.
  18. Hey guys. I'm refinishing my Fender Cyclone from 2000. The paint was beat up and dented to hell and it hasn't been complete in years so I figured I'd take on something I'd never done before and sand and repaint it. Here's what I did so far with a hand held orbital sander: Before: After: The grain looks good. Looks to be one piece which is surprising. How can I get rid of the light marks on the 3rd pic of the refinish? There are a few marks on the back as well and they won't go away. I'm debating whether to clear coat it or paint it a solid color. I don't know much when it comes to guitar painting but I'd like a professional looking job. Can anyone give me some pointers on painting techniques and which paint to buy? Any other tips about sanding or painting are much appreciated. Thanks.
