  1. My understanding is that Hendrix had arranged to record with Gil Evans, the big band jazz man that worked with Miles Davis. I could see Jimi and Miles teaming up at some point. Also Jimi was tired of being the trained monkey and doing all the show biz schtick, no matter how popular it may be to some. He knew it was a rut and wanted out. He was creative. It would come out. He would have had to get a new manager for sure. The Rolling Stones survived their trip into disco ("Miss you"). Ambulance drivers are the one's who did him in, along with his management.
  2. Right on hardhtc! this makes me think regarding our expensive toys: leave some detailed info for your non-guitar gaga relatives who will get your babies. Tell them about what they are worth, good places to unload them at market prices, help them out. They will be emotionally challenged (hopefully!) when you go to the beyond, so anything you do to help them thru it is good. And this shouldn't just apply to old goats: Jimi, Buddy et al weren't that old when they checked out.
  3. That looks Like my first guitar! My Melody Maker didn't have "dominator" on the truss rod cover, however. that one is more beat up, too. Mine cost $75 with fake alligator case. But that was 1965.... but nice to see one of those. BTW, hang the bastards
  4. My first guitar was a 62 (I think) Gibson Melody maker (this was in 65). $75 with case, 2 pu. Used dad's wollensak reel to reel for an amp for quite awhile. A year or two later traded it in on a 59 Gretsch double anniversary, all of $150. Gave me $75 trade in. I would have liked to keep it, but minimum wage was $1.25 back then, and besides (I thought) "Why would I need 2 guitars?" Wish I still had it.....
