Members Anderton
I've honestly tried that out, Craig... run a POD XT through a Crown Microtech and a couple of JBL cabs. Hmmm, I never really thought of JBLs as guitar cabs...I mean more like a stack, or combo.
Members UstadKhanAli
Few people seem to use my favorite trick of using the modeling for the preamp/FX stuff, but bypassing the cab and going through a clean power amp through real speakers. You get the physical element, but you also get the huge sonic range of all those effects and preamp models. Somewhat related...I record my Vox ToneLab SE pedalboard (has amp and effects models) through an amp, and it sounds surprisingly good. I'm really fussy about my guitar sound, so if it didn't sound good, I have other options. But really, surprisingly good. I still get that physicality, and can distance mic and get the sound of the room.

I played around with different cab simulators on the POD XT - I figured a pair of SR-X 712 wedges would be transparent enough for letting the modeler do it's job. I tried it through a couple of guitar cabs, too with the cab sim off.A 2x12 Avatar with V30's and a Rivera 1x12" with an EVM.
