Members DarkHorseJ27
I want to get a project guitar to learn and practice doing things on, but cheap so if I mess up its no big deal. I would need a bolt-on neck solidbody guitar, and I plan to scallop the neck, re-finish the body, and change around all the electronics. What would be a good guitar for this? An used Squier strat? Maybe a First Act? All I really need is a neck and a body. Trying to stay under $100, but will go higher if needed.
Members benricci
A used Squier will do ya. Or a cheap ass Strat-copy from Rondo.
Members Promit
Craigslist is usually chock full of cheap Squiers, as low as $50 and down.
Members cBc
Squires, or even better, Yamaha Pacificas. As long as the neck/fretboard is in good shape, the rest is easily replaceable.I wouldn't pay more than $100 for either .

Members webwarmiller
A used squier off craigslist or ever GC's used site (many times cheaper than CL). I picked up a Squier Bullet yesterday for $40 at a local GC for just such a project. I'm going to show off the much maligned plywood body by removing the existing finish, staining the top ply black while leaving all the others natural. Haven't gotten to the body yet, but I've level/crown/dressed the frets and sanded the back of the neck to get it down to raw wood (love raw necks). The neck actually feels great..... Members jbviper4
I picked up a Squier at a yard sale ($20) , a loaded MIM pickguard off the Free Stuff thread in EG (43 shipping) and cleaned it up into a nice little player.

Members Bob411
I just ordered a First Act guitar. $49 = $9 shipping. These are not the high end good First Act guitars. All I want is the neck, and electronics, so my son, and I can make another guitar body. http://shop.firstact.com/PublicStore/catalog/SALE-Guitars-Starting-at-4999,176.aspx
