Best cheap project guitar?

I want to get a project guitar to learn and practice doing things on, but cheap so if I mess up its no big deal. I would need a bolt-on neck solidbody guitar, and I plan to scallop the neck, re-finish the body, and change around all the electronics. What would be a good guitar for this? An used Squier strat? Maybe a First Act? All I really need is a neck and a body. Trying to stay under $100, but will go higher if needed.

A used squier off craigslist or ever GC's used site (many times cheaper than CL). I picked up a Squier Bullet yesterday for $40 at a local GC for just such a project. I'm going to show off the much maligned plywood body by removing the existing finish, staining the top ply black while leaving all the others natural. Haven't gotten to the body yet, but I've level/crown/dressed the frets and sanded the back of the neck to get it down to raw wood (love raw necks). The neck actually feels great.....
