Members Spudro
This. I wonder if Epi makes an LP Junior? They did, and it was quite good too. Of course, it is now discontinued. Epiphone makes another "Les Paul Jr": But it is not close to the quality of the discontinued one.
Members Alchemist
what does "student" guitar even mean anymore? what exactly are you studying with a P-90 in the bridge.... are you planning to graduate to a humbucker someday?
Members Spudro
I'd rather have this: than this: It costed half as much and the color is MUCH closer to the real thing. I feel that Gibson would sell a lot more of the "standard production" Les Paul Jr if they would just make the color right. Then again, if the Epiphone version was still available, it costs half as much. Both of them have that compensated tailpiece. That fact alone makes the standard production Jr FAR less attractive to me than if they would have kept it simple and made it a slant tail. Members MarkF786
The LP Jr. was $120 in 1954. Nowadays that would be $946.I've never been a fan of the Junior; having one pickup never made sense to me. But I do like the Special with two P90s. But for that style of guitar (and $2500), I'd look to get something truly hand-built from a boutique builder. Here's a picture of my Koll Superior, kinda inspired by a Special:
