I recently jammed with a band who tuned down and the 10s I had on were too flabby.... bending on pitch was very difficult. Brendon Small of Dethklok fame downtunes his gibsons down 2 steps to C standard and he uses the equivalent of (i dont know the gauge of every string) 11s for his wound strings, and the equivalent of 10s for the unwounds.
