Members Bookumdano2
I'm working on someone's project where the bass is buried and while thinking about what I'll do to fix that .... I was thinking about how I never hear the bass guitar in John Lennon's Mind Games. So I go to youtube to pull up a few versions and realize that none of the mixes really ever had bass up front. Which then reminded me that I liked the up front bass on lots of songs ... which somehow reminded me of Blondie's Rapture .... so I pull up a few videos of Rapture and somehow ran across this. Which is kinda cool in a weird way. Which has nothing to do with Mind Games. Which has nothing to do with the project I'm working on.
Members Raymar
Interesting observation, never really noticed a lack of bass in Lennon's early solo stuff. Could it be he was trying to distance himself from Paul in that way?
Members Anderton
A lot of early British pop mixed bass and drums low. It took the Who to get the drums mixed way up front. Emphasis back in the day was standard pop - Vocals first, chords second, everything else third.
Members Fab4ever
Interesting theory. But AFAIK, Lennon was always complimentary of Paul's bass playing, even when they were feuding. In sort of a parallel observation, ever notice how many of Paul's truly amazing bass lines appeared in songs written by John or George? (Taxman, Come Together, Something, Rain, And Your Bird Can Sing, etc. etc.)
