Members metallica_00
Tex Mex, IMHO, is a much, much better PU than the Texas Special. It's not as overwound. I would say they are more Fralin Vintage Hot/Fender Fat '50's than Texas Special. They can definitely do the clean or slightly-breaking-up Strat thing. I think they may be the best non-CS Strat PU Fender makes. I have the Tex Mex in a project Strat...can't say I care for them much (and I use my fingers a la Knopfler a good bit) but that may be a function of the guitar rather than the pickups themselves. Members Rusty_Chains
Thanks guys! You can get a set of Tex Mex for around $50 from what I've seen. So far I'm thinking I want to try Rose pickups. I think I'll wait for those. If I don't like them, I'll sell them. I'm thinking I'd rather go boutique but I've got to get the money together...or just take the plunge and put it on my card. With the way my strat sounds right now...I don't think I can wait or I won't be playing it.
