Members zephyr
Got my Jackson DXMG setup. JB/Jazz Pickups and a set of 10's on it.It's a little bit dark sounding though. I checked the sustain block, and I think it's cast zinc. I'm thinking about getting a new block for the floyd. My options are stainless steel or brass. Any suggestions on which might give me a little more brightness?
Members mrbrown49
Go for steel over brass. Brass will dull the highs even more.

Members Steadfastly
If it's brightness you want, then you want a harder, more dense material. Of the two you picked, steel meets that criteria better than brass, which has got a lot of copper, a softer metal, in it.
Members ExiledCrow
Weird, I found the JB in my Jackson Kelly to be much too bright. I replaced the block with a (much larger) brass one. But when I did I yanked the JB as well so I have no direct comparassion.
Members zephyr
At first I thought I was going crazy. I have another Jackson that has a very similar setup. Maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, double locking trem, same pickups, etc. And that one was almost a little too bright, just a little. But this one is much darker. The bridge position doesn't yield as tight of an overdriven tone. Then I realized a key difference. My old Jackson has a poplar body and the new one has a basswood body. From what I've read poplar has a overall brighter tone, while basswood has an overall darker tone. That's the only thing I can think of as to the tonal difference.A brass block would probably be preferable in my older Jackson. Weird, I found the JB in my Jackson Kelly to be much too bright.
