Members tabdog
Hello Folks, Many years ago,,,,,,,,,,,, My son brought home a body and neck with 2 strings on it. There were no electronics, bridge or tail piece. I installed some robbed pups and electronics. I cut a plastic cover for the hole in the back. I installed some robbed tuners and I got a tail piece and bridge off eBay, but the bridge ended up being gold color instead of chrome. Someone had refinished the body and did an OK job, but,,, someone varnished the rosewood fretboard!!! Yesterday, I finally got around to removing the old varnish. I used Jasco Premium Paint & Epx Remover from Lowe's. It took 2 applications to get all the old junk off. One problem I had was that the paint remover started melting the nut. I had to put a shim under the "G" string. I didn't know it would melt plastic!!! I'll get a new nut today, and some strings. Otherwise, it worked great. I had to sand the sides of the fretboard without sanding the neck, but I did it, I put some lemon oil on it. It looks and plays much better now. It's finally coming together after all these years, Tabdog

Members smorgdonkey
Tokai was known for that extra little 'bump' in the headstock. El Degas also had guitars which looked very familiar.
Members Funkwire
Didn't Memphis guitars have a headstock like that? Nice job, tabdog. But I have to ask...what do you mean by "robbed" parts? I HOPE you mean taken from other guitars owned by you...
Members Brian Krashpad
Congrats! Sooner or later that grain match on the top would drive me nuts though. Oddly the match on the back looks great. Maybe a goldtop paint job and leave the rest as is?

Besides, paint jobs are a pain and take for ever. Odd thing is,,, the bottom 1/2 is one piece and the top 1/2 is 3 piece. The neck is bolted to the bottom piece, (flat on top). The top contours with a good fit. Thanks for the reply, Tabdog

And, No,,,,,, I didn't actually steal any parts. The bridge pickup is off a broken Silvertone Shredder. It is hot. The neck pickup is Lace I got from a friend that had it after swapping out pups. It sounds very good in the neck position. When both pups are turned on, it is fat and hot. The tuners were a gift also. I don't know what they came off of. They are just OK. No more, no less. I got a new nut installed minutes ago, Odd thing is,,,,,, it is a per-cut nut and I did not cut any off the bottom. I just shaved a tad off the edges and string hight is dead on.
