Members ILikeGuitar
I want to put some 11's on my strat and semi-hollow but the nut slots are too small. If the diameters are 0.011, 0.014, 0.018, 0.028, 0.038, and 0.049which of these stew mac files should I pick up?http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Files/Gauged_Nut_Slotting_Files.htmlhttp://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Files/Double-edge_Nut_Files.html Like I'm not sure if a 0.02 file would be too wide for a 0.014 string etc. I'm not sure how much leeway I have in terms of how much wider the slot can be than the string and not wiggle around while playing. I'm looking for the most cost effective solution too...

Members whataracket
I like files that are 0.002 or 0.003 over the size of the strings. If I use the same size as the string I often have binding or seating problems. Much bigger makes for sloppy loose slots. And nobody likes that ... Members thick_mike
Just make some... about 1/4 of the way down I've used feeler gauges with small V's cut into them to adjust nuts before...you only need to widen them a bit. OR... Use old wound strings of the right thickness to widen the slots a bit. Just pull them through a couple of times.
Members lowbrow
Buy the set from Warmoth. Much cheaper than Stewmac and the sizes work for 10s and 11s.
